Bismillah
As salam alaikum
I was talking with a brother today about converting to Islam in America. My sister, your story emphasises what I was telling him. Allah Blesses those who come from the people of the book with a double reward. I've heard brothers tell me that I am so lucky. Alhamdulillah, I am Blessed but not without reason. Allah Knows best how to dole out His Mercy. After converting, I had to walk away from everything in order to follow Islam. All the things that americans see as no big deal like music, dancing, drinking, and mixing, I had to give up. One day they were acceptable, the next there are sinful. This is a total change in attitude and mind set. My family has grown distant and I have NONE of the friends that I used to have. I mean, not even passing hellos. My culture and heritage have enormous gaps in them as well.
Alhamdulillah, I am rewarded as Allah sees fit but when born muslims tell me that I am lucky, I think to myself that they are the lucky ones who got to be raised with Islam as a background. Yes some take the deen for granted but many people take life for granted.
Alhamdulillah, my lineage will not have to suffer the changes that I am Blessed with, Isha'Allah.
Jazaki Allah Khair for your story sister. My advice for you though is to get to a strong muslim community quickly. Shaytan attacks the lone sheep like a wolf. If you do not think that you need to, then listen to me when I tell you that is Shaytan telling you this. Look in our history and see how many companions lived alone amoungst the disbelievers. You are a part of our Ummah (community) for a reason. This is a Blessing and Mercy from Allah to protect His followers.
May Allah Watch over us and Protect us all.
As salam alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu
