`Abdullah bin `Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said:


He who does not have mercy upon the young nor respect the old among Muslims does not belong to our group.

Lessons Deduced

1. The hadith excites the Muslim’s feelings of sympathy, and mercy, especially to the young.

2. It is strongly desirable to respect and honor old people.

3. It is not characteristic of Islam or a Prophetic teaching to be cruel with the young.
