Interesting Question!
#2
<div>Bismillah, as salam alykom
May be the answer of Dr. Zakir was not clear enough to some of the viewers here. Let me simplify it. It is not like Allah Gave the choice to us on whether we want to be humans or angels. Rather acceding to the Ayah, Allah Gave us the choice to accept the responsibility for the trust, unlike the skies and earth.
The Ayah says:
"Truly, We did offer the trust and moral responsibility (which Allah has ordained) to the heavens and the earth, and the mountains, but they declined to bear it and were afraid of it (i.e. afraid of Allah's Torment). But man bore it. Verily, he was unjust (to himself) and ignorant (of its results)." (Quran

this is the part where he explained about the responsibility. As the Ayah says, Allah Introduced the Amana (trust and responsibility) to either obey or not, believe or not to Adam, and Allah Explained that Allah Did the same to the skies and earth. But the former accept it unlike the latter, they did not accept it. This part is further explained in the Ayah saying:
"Then He istawa (rose over) towards the heaven when it was smoke, and said to it and to the earth: Come both of you willingly or unwillingly. They both said: We come, willingly. "(Quran

Therefore, from the beginning, skies and earth decided to submit themselves to Allah willingly and refused to accept the responsibility which is in other words, having the choice, to believe, disbelieve, obey or disobey. Unlike Adam, and remember we are all children of Adam, whereby, his choice had been transmitted to the whole of human kind, he accepted the trust, the Amana of having the choice. Yet, the Merciful, The Compassionate, Does not differentiate in this world (I mean this phase of our lives on earth) between one who believes in Allah and one who does not, between one who obeys and otherwise. I mean that if a non believer excels in his work, career, does good for human kind, Allah Rewards the person by expanding more of sustenance, grants the person success..etc. </div></div>
