Wife Punishment

I've read many fatwas where muslim scholars say there is nothing wrong with a muslim husband beating his wives. And, I have read many fatwas where muslim scholars say that there is nothing wrong with a muslim husband raping his wives:

But what's interesting in this video is that the cleric links together beatings and rape. To summarize: if a wife refuses to have sex with her husband, then the husband is allowed to beat his wife until she agrees to have sex (i.e., she agrees to be raped).

If becoming muslim means that I am required to be in favour of both wife beatings and spousal rape, then I could never become a muslim. If Allah sends me to hell for eternity because I've never beaten or raped my wife, and because I consider all wife beating rapists to be evil cowards, then so be it.
