Assalamo Alikum,
I miss arguing with you
Al Shamms
just kidding :)
As per my understanding, wine has got two meaning 1)unfermented drink or 2)any other drink that causes intoxication. In proverbs as an example quoted by Tareq, God has condemned the drink itself and not just the act of being drunk (
i.e. wine is a mocker
). If God has declared wine or intoxicants as something raging and mocker, then why should we even have a sip from that evil drink?
If the Bible in
Leviticus 10:9-11
forbade the priests from drinking strong drinks to differentiate between holy and unholy, then why this verse doesn’t apply to us as well? Why wine is portrayed in
Proverbs 23:31
as a biting snake and stinging viper and that no one should even look at it? Why God has warned those who wake up and drink wine in
Isaiah 5:11-12
? If John the Baptist drink no wine/strong drink as a sign of his greatness in the sight of God, then why should we do otherwise? If the 2 verses you have quoted suggests that wine is acceptable, then the verses I am showing now are either contradicting to what you've quoted or speaking about different drinks.

Wael
