Asalaamu alikum brother Dan,
Read the following:
Mr. Rogers
Mrs. Robinson
Dr. Phillips
My guess is that you read Mister Rogers, Misses Robinson, and Doctor Phillips. Myself weather I see or write SAW, or spell out the entire phrase I read out the phrase. And I have seen that when Muslims read a passage aloud from a book using any abbreviation they do the same. BUT a weak muslim or a non-Muslim may skip over that entirely regardless of word or phrase especially when it starts getting repetitive because they dont feel a need coming from their hearts.
Im not pointing this out to argue, but I think this is the point the sister Rock was trying to make.
Honestly I dont see how the original post proves it is against Sunnah to use an abbreviation. I know Im not that smart about these things so plese help me understand what I am missing. But I thought that Sunnah is something the Prophet taught us by actions or by verbal teachings. What I understand from this article is that it is not sunnah because the first 3 generations didnt do it. Is that correct? Does that make it sunnah? Because where does one draw the line then?
The article only talks about sending prayer and peace on the Prophet salahlau alayhe wasalaam upon hearing his name mentioned and people are doing that weather there is an abbreviation or a phrase. So please anybody explain to me how that is against the Sunnah. I really want to understand.
Jazak Allah khairn.
Jennifer
