Regarding relations with slaves

Peace..... I know this comment has been made before, but I find it interesting nonetheless. Why is it when a subject is presented about negative things found among those who practice Islam, one feels the need to deflect and mention how this or that act is also practiced by others not in Islam instead of just addressing the subject?
