Quote:Thank you again Rock.
Is there an easy way to recognise the female and male forms of verbs and nouns? Because I seem to make many mistakes in that area. I know that any word ending in "ta marbuta" is female like jameelah or Lughah. However words like Shams are also female. How do you tell the difference?
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
السلام عليكم و رحمة الله
No need for thanks, you are welcome
Let us start with nouns.
There are three categories.
The first category:no rules, it is just agreement that some words are female and some are male, you will recognise it by the time.
examples
شمس / دار are female
قمر / بيت are male
The second category:you recognise it is male or female from the meaning of the word
examples
أم / أخت are female
أب / أخ are male
The third category:there are some rules but it is not easy,I will try to simplefy it.
words ending in "ta marbuta" (مثل ابنة /زوجة)
or "alef maksora" (مثل فصحى / نجوى)
or "alef mamdoda" (مثل صحراء / حمراء)
are female.
Some times you will find some words not following this rule,do you want to know why?it is not easy.
examples
حمزة /معاوية /مصطفى /مرضى /بناء
are male.
I hope it will help.
