Zabeehah chicken = Halaal chicken???

:assalam:

dear brothers and sisters.

I have been thinking for a long time on this issue now. Are animals that are inherently halaal (such as chicken and lamb) still fit for consumption after they have been fed animal products. Many farms all over the world use animal waste products (even feaces!) to add protein to the feed. This obviously results in healthier poultry = more meat to sell!

Now the opinions of many scholars that i have come across vary on this matter.

According to scholars of Hanafiyah madhab, such as Mufti Ibrahim Desai of South Africa:

<i>"To buy or sell feed that contains impurities such as feaces, feathers, meltdown of dogs and cats, blood, brains and the spinal cords of cows, etc. is not permissible nor is it permissible to provide animals such feed. However, if the animals have been fed with such feed and that has been their staple diet, it will be permissible to consume the meat of such animals with the condition that the meat does not give off any bad odour."</i>

But I have heard Dr. Zakir Naik say that animals that are fed on meat are not halaal in islam. (Or something similar to this end) during one of his lectures.

According to SOUNDVISION (a famous islamic website) Dr. Ahmad Sakr,
professor emeritus of Food Science and author of "Understanding Halal Food" and "A Muslim Guide to Food Ingredients" is of the opinion that, <i>"Halal is Halal if the following conditions are taken into consideration" The first is that the animal is itself is Halal. That means no pork, for instance.</i>

The second, is that the food the animal consumes does not contain any blood or meat. Sakr explains that the animal has to be herbivorous to be Halal, and adds that an animal becomes Haram if it consumes blood and /or meat.

The first question that we must ask is that is there any information regarding this matter in the Holy Qura'an and the Sunnah of Sayyidina RasoolULLAH :saws2: ?

Would anyone who has knowledge on this matter like to elaborate?
