Among the manners of the scholars: A man once stole the head cap of Imam Al-Nawawi, so he ran after him saying ¿I have gifted it to you so say you accept¿ but the thief did not understand. (Al-Mnhal Al-Azb P.111) The sheikh was trying to save the thief by gifting him the item, and a gift must be accepted by the receiver either taking it in his hands or pronouncing his acceptance. Imam Ahmed also said: What good will it do you if Allah tortures your Muslim brother because of you? (Al-Siyra 11:262)
