Asalaamu alikum,
One of the benefits of hijab is that is frees us from the bondage of fashion. And also I wonder why is it that we say "we have to show them that we can have fun too' why do we equate having fun with sharing the same activities as non believers? It is not possible to have any fun within our own limits?
I really dont like to talk too much about this personality or that, as I think we put too much weight on celebrity Islam these days and not alot of focus where it really matters. I cant see how meeting with people such as Tyra Banks or Jennifer Lopez is supposed to benefit Islam. Islam came to get the people out of an ignorant state, not to assimilate the believers into ignorance.
I feel when big personalities start using such approach as this, it makes it harder on those who are following the Sunnah to undo the damage and misinformation.
If we really want to spread Islam, do you think we will be more effective by following the trends and traditions of non-believers, or be following the traditions of the Prophet and the sahaba? I cant think of a time the Prophet went to invite the people to Islam by sending dancers or musicians or poets. Can you? Rather he sent the message of truth, clean and clear. It is not us who opens the hearts, it is Allah. We have to remember this point and correct our intentions. Is the goal to please Allah or to please the people?
I know we are not arguing either but having discussion, and I appreciate discussing with you brother Wael.
Allah bless us and guide us always to the right path, Ameen.
