If the children are taught to be proud of their Islamic heritage, they themselves will, insha Allah, abstain from non-Muslim celebrations, such as birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas and there like.

I agree that in today's society we see more Muslims celebrating in these holidays/festivals more so then the Islamic holidays.
