The silk road to China

Two of the world's great religions - Islam and Buddhism - have co-existed for thousands of centuries along the old Silk Road, each leaving monuments and buildings of staggering beauty and enriching the culture of successive Chinese dynasties.
The religion of Islam generally discourages construction of brash or bold places of worship - simplicity is the norm - but the builders of old took liberties within that framework. In the ancient capital of Xian, the city-centre mosque is a work of wooden art; a series of delightful courtyards inter-connect, leading up to the main place of worship. Non-believers are welcome to stroll in its ample grounds, drinking in the atmosphere of serenity and tranquility.

Muslims take great pride in citing a hadith that says "Seek knowledge even unto China." It points to the importance of seeking knowledge, even if it meant traveling as far away as China, especially as at t the time of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), China was considered the most developed civilization of the period. Islam in China began during the caliphate of 'Uthman ibn Affan (Allayhi Rahma, ra), the third caliph. After triumphing over the Byzantine, Romans and the Persians, 'Uthman ibn Affan, dispatched a deputation to China in 29 AH (650 C.E., Eighteen years after the Prophet's (pbuh) death), under the leadership by Sa'ad ibn Abi Waqqaas (Allayhi Rahma), Prophet Muhammad's (Salla Allahu wa Allahai wa Sallam, pbuh) maternal uncle, inviting the Chinese emperor to embrace Islam.

Muslim insurgents killing Buddhist teachers & many others in Southern Thailand
There is trouble in the whore capital of the world.
Muslims in the Muslim-dominated Southern Thailand provinces are killing Buddhists, targeting teachers specifically. I suppose there aren't many Jews to kill in Thailand.
In fact, since 2004, over 1300 people have been gunned down in this region of Thailand (which my dad who works in Southeast Asia vividly describes as "kinda like Malaysia" with respect to its Muslim culture); the killings are blamed on Muslim insurgents as well as general criminal activity. In total, 30 of the people killed were teachers.
YALA: Suspected separatist insurgents have killed three Buddhists, including a police officer and a firefighter, in Thailand's rebellious Muslim-majority south, police said Saturday.
A 37-year-old firefighter was shot dead by two suspected militants in front of his office in Yala province early Saturday morning. He died in hospital shortly afterwards.
In nearby Pattani province, a 47-year-old police officer was killed instantly when he was shot travelling to work early Saturday.
Late Friday afternoon, in Yala province, four suspected militants shot a 62-year-old villager as he drove his two-year-old grandson on his motorbike. The child was unhurt in the attack.
Violence in the three southernmost provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat has spiraled in recent months despite peace-building initiatives by the new government, installed after a coup nearly four months ago.
The region was an autonomous Malay sultanate until Buddhist Thailand annexed it more than a century ago. Separatist violence has erupted periodically, with more than 1,800 killed since the latest insurgency erupted in January 2004.
