Muslimah, I almost fell off my chair when I read your entry. Why would you post an opinion from a self-confessed "Jewish Atheist"??? I guess it's true what they say... <i>My enemy's enemy is my best friend!</i>
Do you guys know who the real target is in all of this? The author of the speech himself, Pope Benedict! Are arclight & I the only ones around here who feel as though he got ripped off?
The speech was not about Islam! It was not about the Crusades! It was not about Mohammad's sword! It was not about comparison!
Anyone, regardless of creed, who actually took time out to read his speech, found it remarkable & were in awe of his brilliance, however, those who turned to the media or other unreliable sources, were quick to condemn the Holy Father & his wise words of wisdom for all.
Not only did Pope Benedict attempt to discourage warlords from causing further violence, hatred & injustice in the world, but he also tried to combat secularism in the West by focusing on the Creator & establishing a unity between faith & reason in general. I'm certain my Muslim friends will support these causes.
I strongly urge you all to read the entire address (as well as the weblink arclight provided) in order to accurately understand the Pope's intentions. Only then will I truly value your opinions.
