As far as why wouldnt we imitate the non Muslims, just as Jennifer said, if Allah Taught us what is right and what is wrong, why would I imitate anyone esle? if they are good, that is good for them, still I wouldnt copy them because they are good, but rather I must adopt an attitude according to Quran and Sunnah because Allah Commanded me to do. Can u see the difference?
If i m in a non muslim country, how would i be recognised as a Muslimah, if I was imitating the non muslims in my appearence? If I m in a non Muslim country i d be only distinguished as a Muslimah for observing prayers for instance, or fasting.
U know that Islam spread in Asia only thru the Islamic moral conduct of Muslim merchants? Thus, we are commanded to only follow Quran and sunnah which suffice to lead a good life and Insh aAllah end up in Jannah. Nothing else is needed. For instance, if this non muslim who adopts an excellent conduct, drinks and eats pork, shall I still copy? Certainly not. Alhamdulelah we have enough of guidance, full, comprehensive that didnt leave the tiniest part of our lives.
