as salam alykom
i d like to welcome sister Niema to the board, may Allah Makes your stay beneficial and Alhamdulelah for becoming a muslim.
Sister Zainab long time no see, welcome back.
CC I dont think I can add much, but quoting a verse from Quran would be much better:
"<b>And do not kill anyone which Allah has forbidden, except for a just cause</b>
And whoever is killed (intentionally with hostility and oppression and not by mistake), We have given his heir the authority [(to demand Qisas, Law of Equality in punishment or to forgive, or to take Diya (blood money)]. But let him not exceed limits in the matter of taking life (i.e he should not kill except the killer only). Verily, he is helped (by the Islamic law)." (Quran 17:33)
As u can see, kill anyone. A general command.
Peace......
....Kill anyone "EXCEPT FOR A JUST CAUSE". Now the question is, who decides what cause is just? The gunman may have decided he was justified because of the statements made by the Pope. Or the terrorist feels justified by the preceived oppression from "the west".
Niema.....
You say the Pope quoted material that was a lie. How can another man's opinion be a lie? Also, you state that muslims are staring down the barrel of a gun in the hands of fundamentalist Christians. It's funny how you condemn someone for making broad brush statements then turn right around and do it yourself. The people who are attacking Islam aren't any more Chrisitan than you are. They use the Chrisitan faith to shield their evil deeds....sound familiar? Don't assume that Chrisitanity is trying to wipe Islam and most middle eastern people off the map based on those who by their ways and actions, prove that they are no follower of Christ. One last thing, don't try to justify his actions by saying perhaps he was afraid. There is nothing an old woman can do to any strong young man that would strike so much fear in him that he shoot her in the back.
Zainab.....
Simply because someone speaks without thinking is NO EXCUSE for someone to act in such a manner as the gunman. Especially when his religion teaches him to not kill innocent people. Unless ofcourse you are of the mind that if they claim anything other than Islam, they are not innocent. But ofcourse you don't think that way...that is how people who can be termed "extreemists" think. Lastly, you say "a faith" as if the faith has anything to do with how people misrepresent it. I find it extremly funny how once again, some people become offended by off color comments, cartoons in a newspaper, and yet, turn right around and commit the same offenses.
