A bit confuse on Surah 4 An-Nisa
#3

Bismillah

as salam alykom brother waheed

How are u hope all is fine with u and family, how was ramadan this year? hope u were able to keep it all Insh a Allah

Now as far as the ayah, I m trying to see why u r confused or where exactly u r confused. Also i m trying to see how u relate it to the hadeeth.

so till u further explain, Insh a Allah about the hadeeth, it indicates the major sins I mean Allah in Quran say:

:Say (O Muhammad): "Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited you from: Join not anything in worship with Him
; be good and dutiful to your parents
; kill not your children because of poverty
- We provide sustenance for you and for them; come not near to shameful, indecent sins whether committed openly or secretly
, and kill not anyone whom Allah has forbidden, except for a just cause (according to Islamic law). This He has commanded you that you may understand." (Quran 6:151)

"Verily, Allah forgives not that partners should be set up with him in worship, but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He pleases, and whoever sets up partners with Allah in worship, he has indeed invented a tremendous sin
." (Quran: 4:48)

"Verily! Allah forgives not (the sin of) setting up partners in worship with Him, but He forgives whom he pleases sins other than that, and whoever sets up partners in worship with Allah, has indeed strayed far away."
(Quran 4:116)

If u check those two Ayahs you will just see that item #1 in the hadeeth is a confirmation and explanation. #1 of major sins is to take associates with Allah.

You are confused about praying and Im not sure how u see that when we pray we take associates with Allah ( i seek refuge to Allah).

Let me go thru this step by step with u, in English u use the word pray to describe prayer as an obligatory worship (salah) and u also use it when u want to say like i will pray for u, like you will ask Allah for things for the person you are talking to. This we call Dua to make Dua.

While during prayer (the worship u also make dua). but u can never pray to anyone but to Allah, u can never call anyone for help, assistance, forgiveness, ..etc except Allah. If one does this, that is what is called taking associates with Allah.

hope this part is clear.

ok to the next point:

To be undutiful to one’s parents { no idea about this one}

Our parents have a major right over us, actually an important means to go easily to jannah is to be kind, attentive, concerned and do all u can to look after your parents.

Where in Quran, here it is the Ayah brother:

'Worship Allah and join none with Him in worship, and do good to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, the poor, the neighbour who is near of kin, the neighbour who is a stranger, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (you meet), and those (slaves) whom your right hands possess. Verily, Allah does not like such as are proud and boastful;" (Quran 4:36)

Can see brother how important it is to be kind to one's parents, Allah placed it second after not to join none with Allah in worship. our parents are the reason we are here in this world, we must pay them due respect, kindness, we must be patient with them specially when they grow old, that is when they need us most. Remember they didnt spare no time or effort to look after us when we were helpless. It is their right to receive the same when they are old and need us. Even if their attitude may be sometimes not acceptable for us, we just restrain ourselves and never get bored or upset with them.

Insh a Allah till you clarify more where exactly u r confused in the Ayah, hope things are clear about the hadeeth.
