Bismillah
as salam alykom
Alhamdulelah as we were able by Allah's close guidance to complete work on this crucial issue, let us delve now into reepi's question. I think it was a question or a point raised to prove something.
Insh a Allah we try to help him understand this point:
He posted the hadeeth:
Bukhari Volume 6, Book 60, Number 118:
Narrated Al-Bara:
When the Verse:--"Not equal are those of the believers who sit (at home)," (4.95) was revealed, the Prophet said, "Call so-and-so." That person came to him with an ink-pot and a wooden board or a shoulder scapula bone. The Prophet said (to him), "Write: 'Not equal are those believers who sit (at home) and those who strive and fight in the Cause of Allah." Ibn Um Maktum who was sitting behind the Prophet then said, "O Allah's Apostle! I am a blind man." So there was revealed in the place of that Verse, the Verse:--"Not equal are those of the believers who sit (at home) except those who are disabled (by injury, or are blind or lame etc.) and those who strive and fight in the Cause of Allah." (4.95)[/
Narrated Zaid Ibn Thabet and said: I was sitting next to the Messenger of Allah salla Allah a`lyhee wa sallam who experienced the tranquility of revelation. At this time the Apostle’s thigh fell over my thigh, and I found nothing heavier than the thigh of the Messenger of Allah salla Allah a`lyhee wa sallam. As the revelation was completed, he instructed me saying write down, so I wrote on a shoulder scapula bone “'Not equal are those believers who sit (at home)
and those who strive and fight in the Cause of Allah”
Till the end of the Ayah, Ibn Makttum who was a blind man stood up when he heard the virtue of Mujahedeen and said O Allah’s Apostle how about those who are unable to join Jihad from among the believers. As soon as he finished his words, the tranquility was bestowed over the Messenger salla Allah a`lyhee wa sallam and again his thigh fell over mine and I felt on the second time the same heaviness of the first time. As soon as the revelation was completed, the Messenger salla Allah a`lyhee wa sallam told me read Zaid. I read “'Not equal are those believers who sit (at home)”. Here the Messenger 'Not equal are those believers who sit (at home) said “) except those who are disabled (by injury, or are blind or lame etc.)” with the rest of the Ayah. Zaid said, Allah Revealed it individually. I added it, and in the name of One Who my soul is in His Hand, I almost can see the location were I added it at the top of the shoulder scapula bone” (reported by Sunan Abi Daoud)
Before I continue Insh a Allah, I meant to put the translation of the hadeeth from another narration that is even more clear in order for the reader to take a better look at the exact situation. I m not sure how this situation was twisted to be that the Messenger salla Allah a`lyhee wa sallam changed the Quran.
Let us started taking an indepth look at this extraordinary situation.
First off, who is Ibn Makttum? He is the blind man about whom Allah admonished the Messenger salla Allah a`lyhee wa sallam in “(The Prophet) frowned and turned away.
2. Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm Maktum, who came to the Prophet while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraysh chiefs).
3. And how can you know that he might become pure (from sins)?
4.Or he might receive admonition, and the admonition might profit him? (Quran 80:1-4)
This is the man Allah clearly admonished His Messenger for just turing his face away from him? How valuable this man to Allah then is the question? Just imagine, this might be quite a special man in the eyes of Allah Sobhanhu wa Tala Who Is the Only Judge of any human being.
Having said this at the beginning of this explanation lays ground to the speciality of the man in question, that the whole Surat was titled after the situation, certainly this is just one aspect of revealing this whole Surat we are not here to discuss Abas. But only to stress the speciality of Ibn Makttum.
The situation shows us how the interaction between Allah and His devotees is so close and prompt. Saying that Mohamed salla Allah a`lyhee wa sallam changed the words of Allah is totally from the truth, while even saying that Allah Changed His mind this is even a shallow way of thinking.
Just note how the situation expresses how a believer must be fully attentive and aware of the value of each and every aspect of our religion, trying to rush and seize any chance to climb and escalate the ladder of ranks to attain the highest possible degree.
Ibn Makttum while listening to the Ayah realized how precious Jihad is, how valuable jihad is, how highly appreciated by Allah Who clearly stated that no comparison could be made between those who strive and those who sit back. Realizing that this can be missed on his side due to his incapacitation, jumped with his comment. Certainly Allah The All Knowing Knew ahead that this situation will occur. The Ayah came from Allah as a source of assurance to each believer who suffers a smiliar situation. Surely, Allah Was not waiting for Ibn Makktum to draw Allah’s attention. But rather to teach us belivers how to deal with the Quran, how to deal with each and every word contained therein. We must look deeply into the words and see how much we fit or how much we can benefit of each situation. Allah Willed to teach us with a practical situation that we should not take a superficial approach while dealing with Quran, but rather see how best we can benefit.
On the other hand, look at the accuracy of Zaid’s performance in ascribing the revelation. When he narrated this hadeeth, he said O wrote it down I made sure to put it in a location so that it doesn’t appear stuck to believers. If this narration was incorrect, surely this part was not going to be included in two different hadeeth. I mean, if this part was in any way a change by Mohamed salla Allah a`lyhee wa sallam, the narration wouldn’t have included a detailed explanation of why the revelation took place in this form.
Allah The All Wise Willed for us to learn from a practical situation how to receive such incidents and what to learn from them.
Just as mohsie commented, that the revelation just completed this part and it is not a change. I mean nothing was omitted. Allah Assured those who are unable to strive in his cause, that they will not be at fault.
P.S I m not even sure why reepi brought this hadeeth, i mean what was the point, however, I really enjoyed this excercise. Thank u reepi. :)
And Allah knows best.
