Malik- That's a good question and a common one about a man having four wives in Islam. The correct English word for it is [u:da75fba1b3][b:da75fba1b3]polygyny[/b:da75fba1b3][/u:da75fba1b3], not the polygamy it's commonly reffered as. Polygamy means either the wife or the husband can have multiple spouses and that is not allowed in Islam, only the man can. Polygyny is the term when the male has more wives, which is what is allowed in Islam.
Acutally, I had read an article once that showed cases of polygyny in the Bible. I'm not sure where it is right now, sorry, but I'll search for it and post the verses soon. So, I'm going to start looking now....... I just wanted to share the correct word, it surprised me when I first learned about it. Just a tidbit of interesting information.
