Bismillah
Hi John
You are viewing this from your point of view, and you are for now far from the truth of Islam. Allahu Alem. But not everyone is like you. Many do need to find the Truth out, it is a 'searching soul need' and that must be fulfilled to find inner peace. This worlds pleasures are not enough. Something is missing.
Some that revert to Islam do a lot of sacrifices on that way, giving up family members, friends, work, home and more. But then when comparing what one gain, all these matters seems unimportant. Faith is so much more worth than anything else.
Your assumption is that as quickly as uttering the Shahadah, the entering into Islam and accepting Islam, one is then ready to leave it again. It is like some kind of 'playing round'. But according to Islam, Islam is the final destination on the 'playing round'. When you come to Islam you are home and there is no other or better home to go to. It is the final destination on the search.
But one thing I agree on, and that is that one should consider carefully before taking a decision. And the best thing to do this is to raise questions, read the Qur'an, Ahadith, other Islamic related issues, AND if doing this on the net, be VERY CAREFUL where one get information from. Unfortunately there are many sites out there that are VERY deceptive and one has to be careful.
