<b>It has been stated in several authentic narrations from the Prophet[saws] that Jesus[as] is to descend on the white minaret located in the Eastern part of the city of Damascus.</b>


He will come at a time after the Great battle "Al Malhmatul Kubraa" which will occur b/w the Romans/Banul Asfaar and the Muslims and when the Dajjal [the False Jewish Messiah] will have appeared and whose mischief and destruction reached the peak level. Damascus at that time will be the capital of Imam Mahdi's caliphate and under the latter's leadership the Muslims will be preparing for a showdown with the Dajjal in the same city.


Before the battle at Fajr time they will be standing in a Mosque and preparing their rows for prayer when all of the sudden Jesus[as], with the support of two angels, will descend on the nearby eastern white minaret. The Muslims will be over joyed to see his presence and Imam Mahdi will ask him to lead the prayers but he will refuse and seek to pray behind the former. After they finish the Fajr prayers, Jesus[as] will open the door of the mosque and will find the Dajjal alongwith his 70,000 jewish army standing infront of him. The latter upon seeing the former will flee, and the Muslims will chase him and his jewish army deep into Palestine, where at a place called Lyida[ Ludd ] Jesus[as] will kill the Dajjal. Seeing their awaited Messiah slain, the Jews will lose all their hopes as they will flee from the Muslims and would seek refuge behind stones and trees for protection. But on that day Allah swt will grant these trees and stones in the land of palestine the power to cry out "Ya Muslim, Ya Abdallah, Hada Yahudioun hina, ta3ala faqtulh", "Oh Muslim, Oh Abdullah here is a Jew [hiding], come and kill him", On that Day Palestine will be truely liberated and not a single Jew will remain alive to walk on the earth.


Anyway to cut the story short.


what the Prophetic narrations point out is that Jesus[as] in the near future is to descend in the Eastern quarters of Damascus on a white minaret that is close to a mosque. Today and also yesterday this description best fit the Ummayad mosque which is located in the eastern part of the city, and there is a tall white minaret on the eastern side of this mosque which most likely is the place where Jesus[as] will come down from the sky. Many scholars including Ibn Kathir agreed that this minaret is the place for this awaited incident. Ibn Kathir also mentions that the minaret at one time was burnt by the local Christians, but they then latter on accepted to fund the reconstruction of the minaret as a fine, for which they presented white stones to build the structure anew.
