Bismillah
Al-salam 'alaykom
Jazaky Allah khayr sister Muslimah, I would like to add to what u wrote, this week our scholar explained in fully while explaining ayah 56 in Surat Al-Ahzab
Bismillah Al-Rahman Al-Raheem:
56. Allâh sends His Salât (Graces, Honours, Blessings, Mercy, etc.) on the Prophet (Muhammad ) and also His angels too (ask Allâh to bless and forgive him). O you who believe! Send your Salât on (ask Allâh to bless) him (Muhammad ), and (you should) greet (salute) him with the Islâmic way of greeting (salutation i.e. AsSalâmu 'Alaikum).
He explained that here in this aya, it is a special salat for the Prophet(SAW) for him and his family. He explained that there are 3 categories of Salawat.
1- The Salat of Allah(SWT), The Angels and ours upon The Prophet(PBU) is to to raise him up to Al-Maqam Al-Mahmood(the highest rank in paradise, it is not for anyone but prophet Mohammad., Allahum Saly A'la sayedina Muhamad Wa Ala A'lehi(his family) Wa salem
. This means when we perform such Dua' we are asking Allah to raise The Prophet(SAW) and his family to the highest ranks in heaven.
2- Allah (SWT), The Angels and Prophet Muhammad(PBU) making salat on us , is to ask mercy and forgivness for us, The angels always asks Allah to forgive us and Have mercy on us, when we are praying, when we do good deeds, when we attend lessons of 'Ilm.
3- We ask salat and salam on people to ask mercy and forgivness for them. Like when we say also " Allahum Saly A'la sayedina Muhamad Wa Ala A'lehi(his family) Wa sahbehe( his companions) Wa salem
It is also can be said about Ali(may Allah be pleased with him) Alayhi Al-Salam).
So exactly as u said the word salaat here does not mean the 5 salawats we perform daily.
If only those who refuse to listen or ponder on what we try to explain they will know that not any1 can give himself the right to explain The Holy Quran, if he does not understand its true meaning. The arabic language is very rich and highly eloquent, and The holy Quran is defying all those to bring one word the same. So did any bring any one ayah the same so far?
Subhan Allah, they never will.
Bismillah Al-Rahman Al-Raheem:
23. And if you (Arab pagans, Jews, and Christians) are in doubt concerning that which We have sent down (i.e. the Qur'ân) to Our slave (Muhammad Peace be upon him ), then produce a Sûrah (chapter) of the like thereof and call your witnesses (supporters and helpers) besides Allâh, if you are truthful.
24. But if you do it not, and you can never do it, then fear the Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.
Truly La Ilaha Ila Allah Muhamadan Rasool Allah
Wasalam
