Assalamu alaikum honeycomb,
Yes you are absolutely right. I blame Bush and the U.S. government completely for all the horror that has happened in Iraq, both to Americans and Iraqis and, as you said, anyone else caught in between.
I was disgusted to hear him rationalizing the death of 20 U.S. soldiers by saying they were "on a mission of peace." like that supposedly makes their death worthwhile, and it's probably not even true in the first place.
And of course there are many many more deaths than that so far.
Alhamdulillah, my brother is stationed in the southern-most part of Iraq, which I have recently learned has no fighting or danger there, it is only in the northern parts where there is the danger of attacks. So alhamdulillah, inshaAllah he will be safe this time anyway, but he still has 2 more times he has to go back to iraq before his service is over. InshaAllah I hope he survives it.
What I was saying earlier is that I understand how the soldiers feel, as individuals when they see something that may pose a threat to them, in individual situations like that of course they are only thinking of their own safety, so I cannot really blame them for their actions (although this particular soldier could have acted more appropriately). But in the long run, it is the government's fault for putting them there in the first place.
May Allah help us all.
