Fasting
#4

Quote:How sick does one need to be in order to break their fast?
Will you also gain extra rewards for fasting when you are very sick?

also does a pregnant woman need to fast?

As far as I know and heard from the scholar sister intuition,

1) if your sickness will cause u to faint or might lead u to death(may Allah forbid) when fasting then don't.

2) No in fact u will not gain extra rewards on the contrary u will be asked about it, because Allah Subhanahu Wa T'ala said in The Holy Quran:

Bismillah Al-Rahman Al-Raheem:

183. O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - see V.2:2).

184. [Observing Saum (fasts)] for a fixed number of days, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (e.g. an old man, etc.), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a Miskîn (poor person) (for every day). But whoever does good of his own accord, it is better for him. And that you fast, it is better for you if only you know.

185. The month of Ramadân in which was revealed the Qur'ân, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong). So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadân i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Saum (fasts) that month, and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe Saum (fasts) must be made up] from other days. Allâh intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you. (He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allâh [i.e. to say Takbîr (Allâhu-Akbar; Allâh is the Most Great) on seeing the crescent of the months of Ramadân and Shawwâl] for having guided you so that you may be grateful to Him. 2, Surat Al-Baqara

If u see the underlined sister [Image: smile.gif] Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'la said in both following verses if u r sick or on travel, which means u r allowed not to fast even if u r on travel, Allah gave u this permission so why not use it? Allah likes his permissions to be used just like the forbidden, he is So Merciful with us and He Knows our capabilities, each is different, He even allowed for those who are not sick and do not bear it and find it difficult, not to fast so they have a choice to feed a maskin everyday. So why should we stress on ourselves if Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala gave us permission [Image: smile.gif] and then if u see in the second verse Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says that: He intends for us ease and not difficulty [Image: smile.gif], hope this point is clear [Image: smile.gif]

3) A pregnant woman can fast after consulting a doctor, which will tell her that fasting will not cause her faintness or cause her baby to be malnutritioned. I used to fast when I was pregnant it was okay with me Alhamdulilah, again I stress consult a doctor [Image: smile.gif]

Hope I answered your Questions sister, Wallah Subhanahu Wa T'ala, A'la Wa A'lam(Most High, and Most Knowing) .

Wasalam
