Islamic Hijaab
#1

Hello,

My name is Djana. I am a muslim from Bosnia Herzgovina. I don't understand why all you women ruin your appearance with such things as hijaab and robe. Why? It seems that only the die hard muslims do this like in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan and so on.

European muslims are different. There is not pressure for us to do this here. Do you women feel pressured to cover up? Do you even have a choice? Is Bosnia or Serbia or Turkey, we are proud of our religion but we are modern in our dress too. When I visit the rest of Europe and I tell them I am a muslim, they judge me. If all muslims were understanding like the one in Europe our religion would have such a better repuation.

Thanks,

Djana

Islam has two sources for guidance and rulings: first, the Qur'an
, the revealed word of Allah and secondly, the Hadith
or the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (S) who was chosen by Allah to be the role model for mankind. The following is a Tradition of the Prophet:

"Ayesha reported that Asmaa the daughter of Abu Bakr came to the Messenger of Allah (S) while wearing thin clothing. He approached her and said: 'O Asmaa! When a girl reaches the menstrual age, it is not proper that anything should remain exposed except this and this. He pointed to the face
and hands." (Abu Dawood)

We Muslims are not supposed to worship selectively, picking out whatever rules or rituals appeal to them and leaving the rest. Denying a basic Islamic rule or ritual is a serious sin.

It is very dissappointing to hear this comming from a muslim sister, but all in all I hope Allah grants you the guidance and strength in faith to correct your path.

Hijab is far from what you seem to perceive it. It shields the woman from all that is unhealthy and evil. Sometime people take that to "metaforically" to uderstand the true benefits of such a act of worship.

Imagine with me if you will, a society that encourages the objectification of women. Allowing or should I say encouraging the beautification of women in public. the more women exceed and out-do each other in the presentation of their appearance to others the more they attract the attention of men. This in return affects the man in a way that he will feel complelled (if he is weak) to look and unwillingly start comparing the woman that he sees in public to the partner he has in life. Needless to say that this can lead to disatisfaction with his curent partner which may lead and result in "marital" or even relationship tensions between the two.

On the other hand imagine a society that "covers", "protects" the woman by perserving her beauty to only be viewed by the husband or partner. As the man and woman go about their daily lives protecting themselves by lowering their gaze and wearing hijab and abayah, they both in return appreciate each other when it comes time to beautify themselves for each other. This results in constant build up of physical and emotional attraction between the two partners giving way for their relationship to develop in a healthy, lawful and natural way. which would ultimatley result in a stable household and in return produces a string societal moral fibre that protects that societys' future generations for many years to come.

I hope I did not offend anyone by my response, I apologize if I did. Any success is from Alla (swt) and and shortcommings is from me.

Assalamualaykum....

The hijab is not a "religious symbol", nor is it "an act of worship", nor is it a way of "showing", "displaying", "professing", "asserting", or "flaunting" anything. It is not even the act of wearing of the scarf itself. And it is not just the "scarf".

The Muslim woman covers all the parts of her body, not in order to "display" anything, but to hide the parts of her body from men, so as not to arouse in them any "sexual" desires.

The Muslim woman does not need to cover her head, when she is sure that she cannot be seen by men, as for example when she is among women. Nor does she need to cover her head in front of her husband and sons, nor in front of her father and brothers. Nor in front of small children who are still incapable of having sexual desires. Nor in front of very old men who are so old that they cannot feel sexual desires.

Nor is the "hijab" limited to the covering of the body. It also means avoiding any contact with men that can lead to any form of flirtation or sexual intimacy. This is applicable also to men.

So, why do women have to cover their female attractiveness from men and avoid their company?

Do not the "modern liberated women" do exactly the opposite - seek to make themselves as "sexy" (attractive to men) as their imagination can conceive and their money can buy?

To answer this question one has, first of all to reject the idea, that the "hijab" belongs to the realm of religious symbols, like the Christian cross, or the Jewish scull-cap. The nearest items familiar to the Europeans that are close to the "hijab" are: "condoms", "contraceptive pills", "clinics for sexually transmitted diseases", various medical and social services dealing with abortions, "unmarried mothers", psychiatric disorders, alcoholism and drug addiction, and "breast cancer diagnosis and treatment facilities". It is these items that are the European equivalents of the Muslim hijab, not the "cross" or the "scull-cap".

It will also help to understand that Islam is not a "religion", as this word is understood by Europeans.

It is also essential to understand the difference in the standards of morality of "modern" European women and Muslim women. For a Muslim woman to walk in the street with open hair is the same as for a "modern" European woman to walk in the street totally naked. A Muslim woman whose scarf is torn off in the street would feels the same as a "modern" European woman whose mini-skirt is torn off in the street. She would feel violated and exposed.

To force a Muslim woman to expose herself in such way is an act of gross indecency and sexual harassment.

For the European secularists this might be difficult to understand, because the words "honour" and "decency" have lost their meaning in the European languages. But in Arabic and in Asian and African languages these words still have their original meaning.

So why is the hijab so important? Is it not just a lot of old-fashioned Victorian "prudery"? Should not the Muslim woman be "liberated" from it, like her European "sister"?

It is a known fact that humans have difficulty in controlling their sexual urges. It is also a known fact that failure to control sexual urges leads to spread of sexually transmitted diseases, break-down of the family structure, sex-motivated violent crimes and general corruption of the society.

The modern "secularist" European ways of dealing with the consequences of uncontrolled sex are: "condoms", "contraceptive pills", and various medical and welfare services. But these secularist means of dealing with uncontrolled sex have only a limited success in prevention of spread of sexually-transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies, and they totally fail as means of prevention of the corruption of the society as a whole.

The Muslim hijab is the way of preventing uncontrolled sex by removing any possibility of such behaviour. - Prevention is better than cure.

But does not the hijab deprive the woman of her "sexuality" and "femininity"?

The purpose of "sex" is reproduction of the Human Race, not abuse of the human body in search of perverse "pleasure".

The purpose of the woman's "femininity" is to give birth to her children, to feed them with milk in the early stages of their lives and to bring them up as healthy human beings. And there are no better conditions for fulfillment of this natural purpose of the woman than a stable family protected by the institution of marriage.

The abuse of the woman's body by the "Modern Western Secular Society" is not "femininity". It is dehumanization of the woman and turning her into an object of public entertainment. And this leads to the corruption of the society which we witness today.

Nor are the ways in which the modern Europeans use their sexual organs "sexuality" in the true sense of that word. The factually correct description of this behaviour is "sexual depravity", or "sodomy".

Hijab is not a symbol or ritual - it is a means of preservation of the health and well-being of the Human Race. It is the failure by the Muslim scholars to explain this to both Muslims and non-Muslims that has lead to the misguided view by the French Authorities that the hijab is a "religious symbol", like the Christian cross or the Jewish scull-cap.

One should also understand why the French are so vehemently opposed to "religion", as they understand it. Their "secularism" is a reaction to European Christianity. The Qur'an called the Christians still 1400 years ago to abandon their "Trinitarian Doctrine", because idolatrous worship of human beings eventually leads to the loss of moral values. We see the truth of this statement confirmed today.

The French intention to ban the Hijab and the controversy surrounding it provide an excellent opportunity for Muslim scholars to develop better understanding of the Qur'an in the light of the evidence before their eyes and to provide guidance to Mankind in the light of that improved understanding.

It is also a call for setting up educational institutions where children would not be corrupted by the secular sodomitic culture and making these institutions an example for the rest of the world.

first I would like to welcome both our sister djana, and brother alfarouk, being new members, hoping they will always join us on the board.

And jazzakum Allah khayr brothers for your beneficial posts.

But I want to ask our sister djana, being a muslim means that she says :

ASHADU AN LA ILAHA ILA ALLAH WA ASHADU AN MUHAMADDAN RASOOL ALLAH

What do u think this means sister, being a true muslim ? it means abiding to every word that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala revealed in the Quran, and also to every word that our prophet has said. Only then we will be true muslims. If u think that any of what Allah the exalted has ordered is not necessary, or why we do it, then u will be in the stage of hyppocrites sister, and we would not want this for u do we ?

Read this aya and think :

Bismillah Al-Rahman Al-Raheem :

30. Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.). That is purer for them. Verily, Allâh is All-Aware of what they do.

31. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like palms of hands or one eye or both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer dress like veil, gloves, head-cover, apron, etc.), and to draw their veils all over Juyubihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms, etc.) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husband's sons, their brothers or their brother's sons, or their sister's sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islâm), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allâh to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful. 24, Al-Noor

and also :

Bismillah Al-Rahman Al-Raheem :

58. And those who annoy believing men and women undeservedly, bear on themselves the crime of slander and plain sin.

59. O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e.screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allâh is Ever OftForgiving, Most Merciful.

So as u c sister this is a straight order from our creator, before knowing why we should be veiled why should we cover ourselves, we must as muslims abide to our lord, by saying Yes we hear and we abide, because it is the word of Allah, it is his order. Then what will differinciate u from a non muslim, it is because they left thier relegion and because they are living only for sensous needs that they have reached to such a low and corrupt behaviour , and because their relegion was corrupted, u find they have no high morals whatsoever, but ours was not because It was preserved by Allah subhanahu wa tala'. So u as a Muslimah, which way do u want to choose, abiding by the word of Allah or walking by the path of those who have lost their relegion and morals. djana, our relegion is great it is the best, and if we leave it and deny what our creator ordered us to do, then we will lose both our life in this world and our life in the hereafter. Can't u c what is happening to the muslims all over, why are they lost why are they divided, because they lost their faith, they do not listen to the word of Allah, they follow the europeans and americans corrupt morals and policies, we will not become again that great Ummah or nation, until u and all the young muslim youth that has been corrupted by foreign and western media return to their deen, to their faith. Omar Ibn Al-Khatab has said : We are a nation that was glorified by Islam, and once we chose another beleif other than it then Allah will disgrace us. So what will it be for u Glory or disgrace.

Djana read more Quran, read more ahadeeth, don't be just a muslim by name, but be a true muslim.

Al-farouk did not mean to offend u nor did I, nor did any1 on this board, we are trying to help u to open your eyes on the right path, and to c how your relegion is a great relegion that was not changed for 1425 years. People changed but the Quran never.

Hey all,

I have taken all your advise into account and their are just some things that don't add up:

1. What about when I excercise (i.e., jog in the street)?

2. What would I cover up so extensivelly to the point where I cannot breathe and become so sweaty it's gross.

Bottom line is that if I were to cover up here, I would be a social outcast. No man would ever marry me. We are moderate and modern muslims.

Thanks,

Djana

Assalamualaikum....

Aisyah r.a. did her exercises with Rasulullah (pbuh)... she did the running... riding horses etc... and she wear hijab....

and the thing you're covering is the precious thing... Islam put women in a very high place so the sisters in Islam is protected.... (where did you put your money and jewelleries?, on the streets or in the bank? that's what the purpose of hijab....)

in Islam, women are not to be exploited.... that's the point you must ponder...

one more thing, Islam is one... the one revealed by Allah S.W.T to Muhammad S.A.W.

there is no moderate Islam, no Fundamental Islam, no extreme Islam.... please don't ever try to divided this one deen into factions.....

How are u sister Djana, Alhamdulilah that u have taken our advice in account, that is by grace and aid from Allah.

Now about your questions.

1- As brother lifutushi answered, it will never stop u from exercising. Now in UAE and Syria and Oman, there are women working in the army and police and they are wearing hijab, it did not stop them did it? and what is jogging compared to army and police sector [Image: smile.gif] .

2- U will breathe why not, do not let the shaytan get into your heart, I live in Kuwait, in summer the tempurature reaches from 50-70 degrees, u will c everybody walking and jogging by the seaside but after 5 o'clock, because before that it is very dangerous, we sweat yes that is good and healthy it will throw out excess poison in the body through sweat, and makes u healthier, and it will keep u in good shape, and of course in Kuwait, there are a high percentage of women wearing hijab, and they walk and jog, I walk wearing black abaya, ok u have to sweat, so what, then go and take a shower, so simple [Image: smile.gif].

3- Why would u be a social outcast, aren't u in a muslim community, and even if u r not in a muslim community, arent u a muslim, if any1 made fun of u or whatever just read the verses of Quran about hijab loud out to them, and say I am a Muslim, and I am proud of it, and I am obeying Allah's orders. Beleive me the man who will want u without hijab means he does not deserve u, because he is showing his positions off to other men, and that means that u r cheap in his eyes, but then if he had a precious diamond, he will put it in a velvet after velvet, and vault after vault, afraid that people will steal it away from him becasue it is so precious. So what do u say, a man who will show u off to others to steal, or to keep u precious and special for him. You have a live example talking, when I wore Hijab my family was mad at me, my mother told me( may Allah bless her soul): no1 will marry u, u look ugly with it, I said: I don't care, the important thing that I was obeying Allah. In less than a year I was married and I have 5 girls now, so u c Allah will reward u for obeying him sister, and if not in this dunya, he will in the Jannah Insha'Allah.

Now I have a last thing for u, sister read more about your relegion, about Sahabiyat in Islam, about our Mothers(Our Beloved Prophet's wives) and u will c that hijab is not an obstacle in your way, on the contrary it will preserve u and make your life better. So if u wore the hijab, others will follow u then c how much reward u will get from Allah(SWT), u will get the reward of all those who followed u, don't u want that? don't u want to join the prophet in Jannah and have a drink from Al-Kawthar river in Jannah by his noble hands, don't u want his mediation to Allah for u, sure u do u r a muslim woman and u are proud of it [Image: smile.gif]. May Allah by his grace guide u to the right path.

Go to this link, u will find, Sahaba's stories, and below Sahabiyat, read it and might Allah enlighten your heart sister [Image: smile.gif]

As salam alaikum

As a muslim man in America, I find the fact that women cover very appealing. It shows respect for themselves and a desire to be obedient to Allah, which is what I am striving for. Will you really care about what everyone else thinks on the Day of Judgement? I can already answer that. No. None of us will. We will all only care about Allah's Judgement. Please, ukhti, remember that this life is like a dream compared to the next one. When we die, everything will be so clear. At that moment we will either be satisfied with our actions or appalled with ourselves. When you dream at night it seems to real. After you wake up, the reality of it all starts to fade immediately. By the end of the day, we barely remember what they are about at all. This is a Blessed sign from Allah to show us what this life truly amounts to. Alhamdulillah, I cannot change your mind. It is all up to you and Allah. But you will never get me to believe that women objectifing themselves is a positive thing. Jazaki Allah for this dialogue, my sister.
