Please help with study - I finally have a Qur'an!
#1

Ok, after a month of waiting, the Qur'an I ordered from an Islamic Bookstore has arrived!

Now, can someone here help me study the Qur'an? I can't just read it from cover to cover because that is overwhelming. Perhaps someone can guide me through topics so that I can get a general overview of the teachings of Islam before I try and read the entire Qur'an. [Image: smile.gif]

I even have a pocket sized Qur'an so I can study on the go.

At the same time I also ordered several very good Catholic books that address some of my deepest questions about my present faith. I cannot leave my faith just because I haven't [i:86045d9127]asked[/i:86045d9127] the tough questions and examined the answers! So this is a dual study: Islam and Catholic.

Thank you so much for your help!

One of the shortest surah of the Quran is Al-Asr. And it goes as following

(1. By Al-`Asr.) (2. Verily, man is in loss.) (3. Except those who believe and do righteous deeds, and recommend one another to the truth, and recommend one another to patience.)

Al-`Asr is the time in which the movements of the Children of Adam occur, whether good or evil.

[i:83f33b1611]Everyone is in a state of loss, because the test time is getting shorter and shorter. Wheather we like it or not we are getting closer to death. [/i:83f33b1611]

[b:83f33b1611](Except those who believe and do righteous good deeds) [/b:83f33b1611]So Allah makes an exception, among the species of man being in loss, for those who believe (Have imaan) in their hearts and work righteous deeds with their limbs.

[b:83f33b1611](And recommend one another to the truth,)[/b:83f33b1611] This is to perform acts of obedience and avoid the forbidden things.

[b:83f33b1611](And recommend one another to patience.) [/b:83f33b1611]meaning, with the plots, the evils, and the harms of those who harm people due to their commanding them to do good and forbidding them from evil. This is the end of the Tafsir of Surat Al-`Asr, and all praise and thanks are due to Allah.

[i:83f33b1611]

The word used it "wa" which means "AND" rather than "or". This means that all of these things combined makes a person successful.[/i:83f33b1611]

A good way that helps me learn the Qur'an is to put an asterix against ayat (verses) that I have been taught some understanding. So that whenever I'm reading through I pause and recall the lesson.

Here are a few ayat from the Qur'an. Put a notation against them in your book, pick out the common theme and put it into action. I only wish I understood the power and benefit of these ayat earlier.

[b:c0a422bde3]When my servants question you about Me, tell them that I am very close to them. I answer the prayer of every suppliant when he calls Me; therefore, they should respond to Me and put their trust in Me, so that they may be rightly guided. [/b:c0a422bde3]Surat Al-Baqarah 2.186

[b:c0a422bde3]So invoke Allah with sincere devotion to Him (worship none but Him) however much the unbelievers may dislike it. [/b:c0a422bde3]Surat Gharfir 40.14

[b:c0a422bde3]And your Rabb says: "Call on Me, I will answer your prayers. Surely those who are too arrogant to worship Me shall soon enter hell in humiliation." [/b:c0a422bde3]Surat Gharfir 40.60

[b:c0a422bde3]He is the Ever-Living. There is no god but Him. Therefore call upon Him with your sincere devotion. Praise be to Allah, the Rabb of the worlds.[/b:c0a422bde3] Surat Gharfir 40.65

[b:c0a422bde3]O Muhammad, say to them: "My Rabb has commanded justice and that you set your faces in the right direction at the time of every prayer and call on Him with true devotion. You shall return to Him as He created you in the beginning." [/b:c0a422bde3]Surat Al-A'Raf 7.29

[b:c0a422bde3]Call on your Rabb with humility and in private; for He does not love the transgressors.[/b:c0a422bde3] Al-A'Raf 7.55

[b:c0a422bde3]Praying to Him Alone is the right thing. The other deities they pray to, besides Him, cannot answer their prayers. They are like a man who stretches forth his hands to the water and asks it to reach his mouth. It cannot reach his mouth this way; likewise the prayer of the unbelievers is nothing but a fruitless effort.[/b:c0a422bde3] Surat Ar-Ra'd 13.14

Also have you visited this site? Another good knowledge exercise is to make cross-references for these ayat also. www.islam-guide.com

May Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful, Lord of all the Worlds and all creation guide you to the straight path.

Mash a Allah I can see that u had excellent helpers here. May Allah Support me to make the right contribution.

“I have only created Jinns and men, that they may serve Me.” (Quran 51:29)

“Say: come, I will rehearse what God hath (really) prohibited you from: join not anything as equal with him; be good to your parents; kill not your children on a plea of want; we provide sustenance for you and for them; come not nigh to shameful deeds, whether open or secret; take not life, which God hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law: thus doth he command you, that ye may learn wisdom.” (Quran 6:151)

“Say: the things that my Lord hath indeed forbidden are: shameful deeds, whether open or secret; since and trespasses against truth or reason; assigning of partners to God, for which he hath given no authority; and saying things about God of which ye have no knowledge.” (Quran 7: 33)

“And ordain for us that which is good, in this life and in the hereafter: for we have turned unto thee. he said: with my punishment I visit whom I will; but my mercy extendeth to all things. that (mercy) I shall ordain for those who do right, and practise regular charity, and those who believe in our signs; * Those who follow the apostle, the unlettered prophet, whom they find mentioned in their own (scriptures), in the law and the Gospel; for he commands them what is just and forbids them what is evil; he allows them as lawful what is good (and pure) and prohibits them from what is bad (and impure); he releases them from their heavy burdens and from the yokes that are upon them. so it is those who believe in him, honor him, help him, and follow the light which is sent down with him, it is they who will prosper.” (Quran 7: 157).

“Whoever works righteousness, man or woman, and has faith, verily, to him will we give a new Life, a life that is good and pure, and we will bestow on such their reward according to the best of their actions.” (Quran 16: 97)

“A. L. M. * This is the book; In it is guidance sure, without doubt To those Who Fear God;* Who believe in the Unseen, Are steadfast in prayer And spend out of What We Have provided for them;* And who believe in the Revelation Sent to thee, And sent before thy time, And (in their hearts) Have the assurance of the Hereafter.* They are on (true) guidance, From their Lord, and it is These who will prosper.” (Quran 2: 1-5)

I suggest very much that u start with reading Fatiah (Chapter one). It explains everthing. I also suggest that u divide Chapter two (Baqarah) into for example 10 pages every day. It is a long chapter yet explains a lot.

Chapter 112 introduced exactly who Allah Is.

In addition to the ayahs I selected to you.

Yes, very good follow-ups. But Michelle this may help you choose the right faith:

"O People of the Book(Bible, Christians)! Now hath come unto you, our Messenger, after the break in (the series of) our messengers, lest ye should say: "There came unto us no bringer of glad tidings and no warner (from evil)": But now hath come unto you a bringer of glad tidings and a warner (from evil). And Allah Hath power over all things." (Quran: 05, 019)

"When Jesus found Unbelief on their part He said: "Who will be My helpers to (the work of Allah)?" Said the disciples: "We are Allah's Helpers: We believe in Allah and do thou bear witness that we are Muslims." (03, 052)

Read Passage 02, 062

Also Read Surah Kafirun.

Is this a study or are you thinking about Changing faith :?:

Explain....
