Asslamma alaikum

I was speaking to another Muslim today and was given this book title as a suggestion for me to read--The Jinn, by Abu Ameena Bilal Philips. Anyone have any remarks on this book for me?

In my humble opinion, in your stage the best book u read would be the Quran, just focus on it, try to read like 10 pages per day or as much as u can, u will learn a lot about your new religion, u will gain more knowledge in areas u need to.

go to our links room, if u dont have a Quran copy, u will find good sites that has Quran online,

Insh aAllah it will certainly be more beneficial.

This is my own opinion

Asalaamu alikum Carol,

I have this book you mentioned, although I have not yet read it.

The advice sis. Muslimah gave is good for all of us, weather new Muslims or old. I think it's a great habit (the best habit actually) to get into reading a bit of the Quran each night and reflecting on it seriously. In addition to this, I think it's also a nice idea to read books on various Islamic topics that will help improve your understanding of Islam, especially when you are new.

For example, the Quran has much mention of the Jinn, but if you do not understand what are the Jinn, it will not mean as much to you as it would if you understand the concept of what the Jinn are.

The same author also has a very good Tawheed book available that I think would also be beneficial to you while reading Quran.

May Allah bless you and guide you, and make the way easy for you and all Muslims everywhere. Ameen.

If you are referring to the book "Ibn taymiyyah's essays on jinns" translated by bilaal phillips then i know exactly what you are talking about... alhamdulillah it is an excellent book...

However i must agree with both sister muslimah and SisterJennifer. While i agree that this book is good. You must take islam in steps...

I will re iterate what i have been saying soo much in the forum "Islam"

START WITH TAUHID!!!!! (i.e the oneness of allah)

I CANNOT STRESS ON THIS ENOUGH!!

before getting into these technical issues like jinn and all that you must have a firm Knowledge of what is islam all about. Many people go into these issues without a proper knowledge of allah and they end up on the wrong path so i urge you to take my advice

you can read this book by Sheikh ul islam ibn Taymiyyah

(please allow me to just put this one link to the book you can read online all other links would be to other posts within the forums)

this thread is a must and i urge you to read it... it deals specifically with kalimah tauhid.. it is a MUST!!

I know that i gave you alot but maybe you can book mark some of these pages and read them later... but above and beyond all always remember...do not move forward until you have an understanding of Allah. I tried to make things easy for you by doing the search myself for the threads that i find would help you alot now all that you have to do is click on the links that are provided.. insha allah read them and keep us posted on your progress..

To the mods:I know that you didnt want many outside links in these pages.... this is why i only included links within www.islamsms.com however there is one link above that is the translation of a book by the sheikh ul islam.. please pardon me for this and pardon all the other links that i included i just wanted the task to be easy for others...

wa salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

who said we dont want outside links, we are only restricted in terms of links to non Muslim sites or info. In other words, we dont let links to an anti Muslim, or missionary sites. hope this is clear now

May Allah reward u much for your efforts akhi. And also yes if the site has it, let people use it so that all of us including u gain the reward:)
