Br. Suhaib Webb said something similar at the convention in Chicago. I will paraphrase since I do not have exact quotes:

Some people who convert to Islam think that the conversion is winning the battle. Conversion is actually the first step in a lifelong battle in the Name of Allah. It is the beginning of the journey, not the end.

Before Islam, I felt like I had too many responcibilities and could not handle it. After converting, I look and see that I have even more responcibilities than before but now I have Allah Most Merciful Guiding me and Protecting me.

my wife also said something interesting about this matter..

when i asked her what do you feel now after conversion .. first she said AM IN PEACE. and then she said I DONT WANT TO CALL IT CONVERSION BUT I WILL ONLY CALL IT ADJUSTMENT. I WAS HAVING A SHIRT but IT DOESN'T FIT ME. BUT NOW AFTER SOME ADJUSTMENT THE SHIRT IS VERY COMFORTABLE AND CAN FIT ME.

May Allah open all hearts to Islam. Ameen.

I also like this one so much, and confirming it, the same revert woman told me. Actually when we revert we change all habits of our lives starting (sorry for the expression) from the way we use the toilette.

Alhamdulillah, there are many things in my life that I now do solely because I am a muslim. This gives me a wonderful feeling sometimes. I know what life would resemble if I was not muslim so this makes me even more grateful. I can relate more with doing things solely for the sake of Allah because before there was such a lacking in my life.

When I first learned about how muslims use the bathroom, I was like :eek: :confused: . But I chalked it up to doing it for Allah so I changed my manners. Now I think it would be quite difficult to go back to the old method, not that I would.

I think it's a contract of war with Shaytan because it is also a contract of war with your ownself in that there is the struggle to overcome your weaknesses, bad habits, and be the better person by improving from our failures.

Also as a revert, when newer reverts than yourself come to Islam, they often look to those other reverts that have been at it longer for help, so we have to strive to educate ourselves not only for the betterment of ourselves and our families, but the betterment of the whole group insha Allah.

I was talking about this with another revert sister last night, and we talked about feeling so overwhelmed in the beginning and even now, being overwhelmed at times. We know a little more now, but feel as though we know nothing, maybe this is the way it always will be? Sometimes, we feel we aren't fufilling our duties as the needs here are very great and even education is a challenge.

Maybe you know that saying about "The only person you have to be better than is the one you are right now."

And it is the beginning of a journey, not the end. And like all journeys, there is the triumphs and set-backs. But even in the hard times, there is always happiness and gratitude to Allah swt, who guided us and made us Muslims.

Not at all Jennifer totally on topic and u know what it applies for us raised Muslims as well.

I remember the day I first put Hijab on, I was 28, and I had a Christian co worker. Imagine she said something to me Sobhan Allah, she said be ware, Allah Shall test u starting now, just hold on, and dont give up. Know it is a test from Allah.

I was amazed for her words because they simply fit so much.

Subhanallah sometimes ppl who revert have a perspective on things that are truly amazing..i like this quote.. i think i will use it some where.
