O you who believe! When you meet those who disbelieve, in a battle-field, never turn your backs to them.*And whoever turns his back to them on such a day - unless it be a stratagem of war, or to retreat to a troop (of his own), - he indeed has drawn upon himself wrath from Allah. And his abode is Hell, and worst indeed is that destination!*You killed them not, but Allah killed them. And you (Muhammad) threw not when you did throw but Allah threw, that He might test the believers by a fair trial from Him. Verily, Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.*This (is the fact) and surely, Allah weakens the deceitful plots of the disbelievers." (Quran 8: 15-17)
And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not dispute (with one another) lest you lose courage and your strength depart, and be patient. Surely, Allah is with those who are As-Saabirin (the patient ones, etc.). (Quran 8:46)
Are we doing all of this, as a whole Muslim nation?? What is happening around us is not but symptoms to the ailment we are all suffering, each one of us on the individual level is responsible somehow or the other. On the collective level, we need to really ask about the Niyah of those who are fighting, is it in the name of Allah or seeking power?

As Salam alaikum
Unfortunately, when Isreal was formed there was not one town in Palestine that did not have a grave at it, (ie, grave worship... Shirk!) If muslims were practicing their deen then we would not be where we are. That is said many times but what does it mean?
I hear "Unity" alot. What unity? Unite against nonmuslims? Unite all muslims together? Or unite on the rope of Allah? If we are "uniting" for ANYTHING other than for Allah in accordance with the Qur'an and Sunnah, then we are getting exactly what we deserve. Shirk near Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa? The Jews did not take the land. Muslims forfeited their right, Given by Allah, when they disobeyed Allah and His Messenger.
If anyone needs to review why we must follow the sunnah then please see any of the numerous posts addressing it. I would like to point out that muslims are not living in accordance with the sunnah for this entire event. Looking for nonmuslims to rectify the situation, looking to politics and democracy, looking for anyway other than what we are supposed to do. Did it occur to us as an ummah that the loss of one of our sacred lands was a wake up sign that Westernizing does not work? Since embarking on secularism, we no longer have a khalifa and have lost muslim lands.
Let us wake up! Why are we going to waste time trying to organize (nonmuslim style mind you with charity organizations and drives.. maybe a bingo night?) when we know nothing of our religion, why we practice it, why we are in the state we are in? How can a muslim nation exist if no one knows how to be a muslim?!?
I pray for our brothers and sisters who are suffering. I pray that innocents are spared, that the oppressors are disabled, but mostly I pray for a return to the pure sweet deen unadultered by time and opinion for this ummah. If we want to really help, really... we need to live as the Companions did. When the times were rough and they were weak, did they protest in the streets and appear to the local chiefs for mercy, selling their deen? Or did they endure with patience, gathering knowledge, good deeds, and living in obedience.
ONLY then will we as an ummah be ready to have the responsibility of a muslim nation. When we know what it means to be one.
As Salam alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu
