An Iraqi reporter called U.S. President George W. Bush a "dog" and threw his shoes at him on Sunday, sullying a farewell visit to Baghdad meant to mark greater security in Iraq after years of bloodshed.


Just weeks before he bequeaths the unpopular Iraq war to President-elect Barack Obama, Bush sought to underline improved security by landing in daylight and venturing out beyond the city's heavily fortified international Green Zone.


In a sign of lingering anger over the war that will define Bush’s foreign policy legacy, an Iraqi journalist shouted in Arabic "this is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog," and hurled his shoes at Bush during a news conference with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

Throwing shoes at somebody is a supreme insult in the Middle East. One of the shoes sailed over the president's head and slammed into the wall behind him and he had to duck to miss the other one. Maliki tried to block the second shoe with his arm

What really surprised and tore my heart, how Iraq handled this incident. I cannt believe they are calling him a foreign guest, how did the truth have been twisted, ruined, distored. Is he a guest? a guest of whom? of his victims, of the widows, and orphans....Ya Allah.

Oo really I m so surprised of your attitude Johndoe, all respected American I worked with and met for three years now are totally denouncing what America is doing in Iraq, the presence of american troups in Iraq, and here you are saying that he is a gues of a democratic state. May be you are correct Jennifer, what is even worse is that he is being tried. Tried for what? if he meant to kill him he would use a pistol not his shoes. But at least he did what many other leaders failed to do, he revived people's senses. May Allah Protect him and rescue him of their hands ameen.

First of all, an Iraqi reporter on a TV interview said what Zaiydy did was expressing a universal wish on our part.


Second, this is just a clear sign of the fallacy of freedom of expression, the democratic governemt you are talking about johndoe that actually following footsteps on the USA supposedly grants freedom of expression. Based on this ground what he did was to express himself. How come Bush the president of the so called freedom haven ordered for him to be beaten up, then of course to further please him, now Iraqi gov is investigating him. It is soooo funny that they tore the shoes looking for explosives... :lol: They are just looking for reasons to hold him in custody.
