I think I have answered this question before. As far as what do Shi'a believe personally about Abu Bakr and Umar that you would have to find out by asking every Shi'a individually because it differs from person to person. Some Shi'as are more extreme some more moderate. The same can be said about any sect.


Officially it is very hard to pinpoint an official position on ABu Bakr and Umar. As I said before the Shi'a scholars don't busy themselves in condemning people they don't like to hell. However there are official positions on some of the actions of these two individuals e.g.



  • Their Caliphate was not legitimate.
  • Abu Bakrs confiscation of Fadak from Fatima was wrong
  • Certain innovations e.g. banning of Muta' and introduction of Taraweeh prayers.
Do we slander them? NO.


Do we mention them mith adjectives of dispraise? If you mean criticising their actions then....YES.

Jazakum Allah khairan for your reply Karbala, before I continue on that topic, could you please clarify the points I raised on post #228 regarding Karbala (The City).


Then I will get back to the Sahaba.


Again I want to stress my aim and make it clear, it has been a long time for both sides making Takfeer against each other. While as Muslims we know, or at least we should be well aware of what may invalidate one's Islam (takes the person out of faith). Based on this, I m aiming at introducing the viewpoint of one Shia from his own mouth regarding all the questions we may have, then each one of us can - if one wishes - gauage this against the criteria and exactly know what is happening around.

Karbala is extremely sacred. Hajj???? hajj can only be performed in Mecca (obvious no?).


Taqiyya is only performed when ones life is in danger. Hence in hajj or anywhere else Shi'a will only use Taqiyya if they feel theyre in danger.

Correction. Shi'as rarely do Takfeer upon Sunnis. I have never seen it personally. The same cannot be said the other way round unfortunately.

Alright let me paraphrase my question, and I hope you be straightforward about it. For example, in the papers this year, a picture was published for Shia Hajjis who are performing Salat in Karbala before leaving for Haj.


Again you replied it is extremely sacred. Now how sacred is sacred, I mean what exactly this position entail for a shia? what are the consequent obligations? I cannt think of a better explanation to my question. Hope it is clear.[/color]

Shi'as traditionally go for ziyarat before or after hajj. This can be either to Medina, Karbala, Mashad, Qom,even Al-Quds (one day inshallah). They normally do this because the hajj season is the most convenient time to do this as they may have taken time off work, they can book a transit flight etc etc. They arent doing "Hajj" in Karbala or anywhere else. I hope that answers your question.


There are no real religious obligations towards Karbala. For a Shia Karbala contains the graves of Imam Hussain(as) and other Saints amongst his companions. Hence the Shi'a consider it to be a meritorious act to visit their graves just like visiting the Grave of the Prophet(saw) in Medina.

1. How do you exactly define Muta marriage, I mean what are the criteria that makes it a Mutaa marriage?


Alright the big question, and I think Haji asked you the same question earlier but you didnt reply.


Do you as a shia believe that Quran in our hands currently has been distorted in any form or fashion???

Muta put crudely is a fixed-term or temporary marriage. There are a few fiqhi differences in comparison to conventional marriage such as.


1. Specified time limit.


2. Woman not entitled to subsistence.


3. Woman not entitled to share conjugal bed.


4. The huisband does not inherit the wife and the wife does not inherit the husband.


Otherwise most other things e.g. Mahr, formula etc is the same as conventional marriage.

No. The Quran as it is presently is complete, nothing added nothing subtracted.

Alhamdulelah for this, not sure if you are aware but one of the major issues is that some shia scholars promote the distortion issue. But if you as a shia and other shias dont believe this way, then fine.


Insh aAllah I have more comments on the previous points that Insh a Allah will put one by one.
