Quote:You see my question was "Just out of curiosity SisterJennifer, do you know what the punishment for Zina is in Islam ?"
Your response should have been either yes or no.

I didn't ask for an explanation of the punishment nor did I ask anybody else to explain it. I was just wondering if you knew.

First of all, this was not the only question John, you said:

Quote:Just out of curiosity SisterJennifer, do you know what the punishment for Zina is in Islam ? Let's just suppose for a minute that this girl was a muslim in a muslim country governed by sharia, and this muslim girl had been caught having zina, and the girl was found guilty by a sharia court in accordance with sharia law, what do you suppose the punishment would be ?

It was you who wants us to suppose for a minute that this girl was a Muslim, and accordingly the answer was provided, we can't answer you by yes or no unless we offer some clarification on the topic, at least for the benefits of other viewers. So after reading the article few times, I did not find anywhere that this girl was caught having Zina!! and so, she should not be punished according to Islam.

So don’t consider the explanation that you did not ask for was meant for you John, it was meant for those who really want to learn.

And by the way, these are public Islamic forums, anyone has the right to post his views and respond to any thread, and since your question was regarding Islam, then any Muslim here has the right to provide the answer.

I m not sure what is your problem John and I m not sure how dont u perceive this as public forum. This is not Wael's, mine, nor any one else's even among the Muslims. This is a place calling for Allah and Thus, it is not owned by anyone or even controled by anyone. We are here to learn and help others learn. Thus, when Wael tells you that this is a public palce and if u post something in public it means anyone can answer even if u addressed a certain person, doesnt really require this kind of reaction on your side. I m surprised though. Take it easy John...

Quote:Certainly I did ask what the punishment would be but I did not ask for an explanation as to how SisterJennifer (or you) arrived at that.

And certainly I’ve mentioned in post# 11 about the punishment of Zina in Islam.

Quote:First revelation concerning the punishment of zina was that a woman guilty of zina was to be confined to her home until she die (An-Nisaa' 4:15). The second revelation covered both men and women and was not very specific regarding punishment:
[And as for the two who are guilty of indecency from among you, give them both a punishment; then if they repent and amend, turn aside from them; surely Allah is Oft-returning (to mercy), the Merciful.]
(An-Nisaa' 4:16)

Allah Almighty then revealed:

[(As for) the fornicatress and the fornicator, flog each of them, (giving) a hundred stripes, and let not pity for them detain you in the matter of obedience to Allah and the last day.] (An-Nur 24:2)

Stoning to death was prescribed for married women who commit adultery. not for people who fell in love John.

Quote:Ah, Wel just can't resist answering for other people I see.

Certainly I did ask what the punishment would be but I did not ask for an explanation as to how SisterJennifer (or you) arrived at that.

Well I am sure that those who really wanted to learn about islam would have been able to make their own conclusions or they would have asked.

Fair enough Wel, you carry on and answer for people. It is your forum after all.

I think all has been said already by my brothers and sisters alhamdulillah.

But I am surprised that you address a question or what I shall call it....to a certain member. And then get frustrated if another one anwers. This is the common behaviour on all forums how to interact in discussions. You may raise a question to a certain person, but others are welcome to give their view too. If one is not interested in discussing and taking in views, then what is the reason for raising questions or discuss in the first place? On a public forum?

Another thing, I have noticed that some non Muslims are very keen at actually avoiding to discuss, meaning it is not unusual for them to raise a question and then demand the 'answer' - 'answer by ''yes'' or ''no'' '! Period. Now that is a very strange way as I see it to proceed.

So your irritation is very obvious, why I don't know but try to cool down a bit and it would be great if you could keep it on that level.

Thanks for reading my input. Have a nice day.

Quote:Please quote the verses in the quran that prescribe stoning to death for married women that commit adultery.

This is not related to our topic at all, if we suppose that this girl was a Muslim then she should not be stoned for falling in love as the article mentioned. plus i've clearly states that stoning to death was prescribed for married women who commit adultery. not for people who fell in love John. we have nothing to hide john... Islam prescribes that both adulterer and adulteress should be stoned but it does not inflict such punishment unless they are married persons and upon conclusive evidence by four eyewitnesses.

I think you wrongly imagine that such punishments will be inflicted every day. You also think that the Islamic society indulges in daily executions of flogging, hand-cutting, and stoning. But the fact is that such deterrent punishments have been executed very rarely.

Anyway, there is no mention in the Qur'an about stoning to death, this law was specified in the Shari`ah for the married adulterer or adulteress, it is stoning to death. In the Kuwaiti Encyclopedia of Islamic Jurisprudence, we read the following:

Quote:Ibn Qudamah wrote: “Muslim jurists are unanimous on the fact stoning to death is a specified punishment for married adulterer and adulteress. The punishment is recorded in number of traditions and the practice of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stands as an authentic source supporting it. This is the view held by all Companions, Successors and other Muslim scholars...”
