Condition of Women in Other Nations Before Islam
#1

In Arabian society the female child was look upon as a curse and The people in that society both men and women looked at the birth of a female child as worthless and many had distain during her birth. SEE Suratul Nahl:58-59 Allah calls it an evil decission they make to choose between being looked down upon due to having a girl child or burying her alive in the dirt.

In Roman society women were also considered a worthless comodity for mere sex and enjoyment. She would be bought and sold in the market place. The men had perfect rights over her and complete athority over her to the point that her life and death was in his hands if he felt she should be killed she would be killed even if it was unjust and no athority would intercede.the children would be subjected to this also.

In The Nation of Unud(India) Women were looked at in a most degradated manner If her husband died she would be expected to burn herself alive due the maltreatment which was her lot, The attitude was "Perhaps she would be please to set herself ablaze to free herself from ill treatment from everyone in society including her own family.

Amoungst the Jews Women were cursed due to the jews belief that Our Mother Hawa(Eve) suduced Adam. The Father could sell her. The men believed that her company could not be kept due to her menses. Nor would they sit with her or touch her.

The Christians thinking regarding women was She was a door to Shaytaan so much so she shouldn't even be married, They held that the women was unclean outside of the menses and that her status was that of subservency. They didn't show any concern for her in life or in death. This was an institution regarding women in Christian societies.

You are nuts.

Ephesians 5...25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church— 30for we are members of his body. 31"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."[c] 32This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Colosians 3... 19Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

1 Peter 3....7Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

Lets ask the women of Afganistan during the reign of the Taliban how they were treated as women. The Quran speaks of beating women. You won't find that in the bible.

There is only one God. I am not a Hindu.

Lets though take a brief look at your "source"...I am sure that it is a honest and unbiased presentation right?

1) Eve's fault...it was both Eve's and Adam's fault. Both were cursed. Not just Eve. Adam was faulted for taking the same fruit and also he was punished for allowing Eve to take it. If you read the narrative between the serpent and Eve you'll see that it reads as if the serpent is talking to BOTH of them at the same time...but only Even answered and spoke with him. Adam was standing there scared and let his wife sin...which was sin. Why stop at Eve? Take a look at the new Eve...Mary. She suceeded were Eve failed.

2) The image of Eve as temptress...I am laughing. Throughout the bible SOME women are described as such...yet some women are lauded for their virtue. By the same token some MEN are described as wicked while others are lauded for their virtue.

3) Female Education....are you kidding me? Have you ever been to a Christian country? Women SHOULD stay silent in the Church and not teach with authority on theological matters. I haven't seen any women Clerics lately. The Islamic men all go to the Mosque and women aren't typically there teaching.

4) Women are unclean during their cycle. There are health reasons for abstaining during that period...

5) Bearing witness...many of the laws of the Old Testament covenant were eclipsed by the New Covenant which Christ fulfilled. Take a look at New Testament women. See how Jesus treats Mary Magdelene, the prostitute for example.

6) Adultery....again laughing. What a joke. Ever heard of monogamy? Where did that come from?

7) Divorce...huh? The "source" you provided said that, "The New Testament follows the Shammaites opinion..." Yet it provides no New Testament reference? Hmm..

8) Mothers..."To the contrary, one gets the impression that the New Testament considers kind treatment of mothers as an impediment on the way to God. " The most dishonest and reckless thing I've read in a long time. "If a mother with the stature of the virgin Mary had been treated with such discourtesy, as depicted in the New Testament," Even worse. Your "source" completely and utterly missed the mark.

9) Female Inheritance (see #5)...those are jewish inheritance laws.

10) Plight of Widows...Man your "source" is really stretching things.

11) Polygamy...see new Testament. HOW many wives to your prophet have?

etc. etc....

In conclusion...your "source" was very good at picking out isolated texts completely out of context (both historical, literal and theological) and grafted his own spin to make in look like women are trash to Christians.

I know that you muslims HATE it when others take isolated Quranic verses and draw sweeping conclusions. I guess it is OK for you guys to do it huh?

Lets take a look at empiracle evidence on the matter. Do women have more rights, opportunities, freedom and education in predominantly Christian nations or predominatly Muslim countries?

Lets keep on going...

Here is a source which falls along the same lines as your "source"...you can read all about your prophet's opinion of women!

Here is a quote straight from Mohammed...it sounds quite a bit like what your "source" was blaming Christians for!

Quote:[Muhammad said]: O womenfolk, you should give charity and ask much forgiveness for I saw you in bulk amongst the dwellers of Hell. A wise lady among them said: Why is it, Messenger of Allah, that our folk is in bulk in Hell? Upon this the Holy Prophet observed: You curse too much and are ungrateful to your spouses. I have seen none lacking in common sense and failing in religion but (at the same time) robbing the wisdom of the wise, besides you. Upon this the woman remarked: What is wrong with our common sense and with religion? He (the Holy Prophet) observed: Your lack of common sense (can be well judged from the fact) that the evidence of two women is equal to one man, that is a proof of the lack of common sense.[10]
The Prophet (the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "Isn’t the witness of a woman equal to half of that of a man?" The women said: "Yes." He said: "This is because of the deficiency of her mind."[11]

That is odd? Why was your source attacking Christianity when Mohammed said the very same thing?

What did your "source" say about adultery?

Quote:The Believers must (Eventually) win through—Those who humble themselves In their prayers; Who avoid vain talk; Who are active in deeds Of charity; Who abstain from sex, Except with those joined To them in the marriage bond, Or (the captives) whom Their right hands possess—For (in their case) they are Free from blame.[16

Having relations with a captive fits my definition of adultury.

Quote:The Qur’an improves on the pagan practices regarding inheritance for women. A woman should not have any part of her husband’s or father’s estate. Sura 4:11 declares that a woman shall share of what parents and kinsmen leave. A man shall inherit twice as much as a female. (Sale, p. 72)

What was that about inheritance?

Wow CC, you really freak out.

Actually when I read what you posted, the hadith supports the post you preceeded it with asking why would a women want to do that?

I am a woman, and I know what our our faults, and the hadith is true. Although Im not sure about the translation you posted, as I recall the hadith sayng the reason was for spreading gossip, and being ungrateful to our husbands. Most any women's gathering eventually ends up with talking about so-and-so, and complaining about the husbands shortcomings. In any case, I am thankful really for the hadith because trying to keep myself into falling into the type of behavior specified in it not only will save me from hellfire, but will make me a better human in this life too. Shouldn't we try to improve ourselves? There is nothing wrong with acknowledging our shortcomings, it is when we attempt to play perfect that we fall into troubles.

Our religion does not sugar-coat anything, and it does not hide anything.

As for the inheritance, the women only get half of what the men get because it is the men's responsibility in front of God to take care of her needs, and she will not have to use her money to pay for her basic needs, but they will be taken care of for her by her male reletives. His money must be used to take care of her, but her money is hers to do anythng she chooses with it.
