The Niqab debate

I'll start another thread on this, so the stadium poll doesn't go off-topic.

Also i dont know if anyone knows but here in the UK the niqab has become an big issue and the kufr basically want to ban muslim women from wearing it.

And in todays lesson, 2+2=5


No one, I repeat no one, has seriously suggested that the veil should be banned outright.

Jack Straw does not insist women remove their veil, and only asked that they remove them in meetings, and even then only when another woman is in the room. Its only a request, not an order, because he feels uncomfortable in a 'face to face' meeting when the other person is completely covered.


TBH I can see his point, to a degree. While I fully believe that you have the right to freedom of choice in this country (enough people have died fighting for that right) and any woman, muslim or no, has the right cover herself as she see's fit, I do find it uncomfortable being around women dressed like that. This isn't just some racial thing, just a difference in cultures. Facial expression plays a huge part in communication (which is why internet smilies where created), and while muslims may well be comfortable with holding a conversation like that, it is unnerving to non-muslims.


To look at it from another way, how many muslim men would be happy having a meeting with a non-muslim woman who's wearing a mini-skirt and low cut top?

Besides what u(and JS) r saying is quite offending (the niqab is very dear to me :wub: )but hey ill take it because not everyone can be pleased (point being) u cant please everyone. if we are not infringing the rights of anyone then honestly we couldnt care less


if JS "feels uncomfortable" thats his problem not ours and if i where in the same country as this man i would happily wear the niqab infront of him and all those who support him.

It may play a huge part in communication but respect for other people's choices and their way of life is greater.


besides we wear the niqab to please allah (s.w.t) our aim is not to please the likes of JS

ive got a wierd opinion but my opinion does make sense , i want the hijab/niqab to get banned ......... why? because those that wear it had courage to wear it in the first place , and a ban is not going to stop them from wearing it . Atleast if it does get banned it will unite the muslims , even those that DONT wear niqab/hijab will rally for the cause.......

That was exactly my point. You wouldn't be happy with it, and would prefer it if they covered up more. Its the same as what Jack Straw said, but in reverse

No-one is proposing a ban. And why is what I've said offensive? Didn't I say that although I'm uncomfortable with it, it is absolutely your right to wear it? If there was as ever a vote on it, I would vote against banning the niqab. Absolutely no one has the right to tell you what to wear, but there does need to be respect both ways. Whenever something like this theres always a backlash, demands for this that and the other, waving of banners and gnashing of teeth. Instead of dialogue we get tirades.


AFAIK there isn't even agreement among muslims as to how far this cover up should go, hence the Burka, niqab, hijab etc; Personally I have absolutely no problem with the hijab, and I do have a respect for any muslim woman that wears a niqab as a sign of her faith, even more so for those in the UK as there plenty of knuckle dragging morons who would give them verbal abuse over it. But I still find the niqab unsettling, and its fair to say most non-muslims the UK probably feel the same. The niqab is a very alien piece of clothing and an equally alien concept.

Suhail: From your other posts, and your first reply here, you seem a sensible and level headed guy. You've given me hope that,despite our different beliefs and backgrounds, we might actually stand a chance our two communities getting along, and hopefully becoming one community rather than looking at each other with distrust. But......
