Why do Muslims so revere Mohammed?

Do you as a Muslim love Mohammed more than Christ (taking the position for sake of question that Christ was a prophet and not God)?

Is the love and devotion to Mohammed contained in the Quran?

Quote:Why do Muslims so revere Mohammed?

Because of his exalted Manners and his amazing character.. for example, as the head of his family, our prophet was the most compassionate and loving husband, he also was a very caring father. his gentleness with his wives is also a guide to our relationships. the absence of anger, nervousness, and dissatisfaction makes his character phenomenal. ovrtall, he was sent as a Mercy to ALL. he once said: <b>if anyone wrongly kills even a sparrow, let alone anything greater, he will face Allah's interrogation"
</b>

he used to shorten his prayers, if he heard a child crying, he also said<b>, he who does not show mercy, will have no mercy shown to him"
</b>

when they ask him to invoke a curse on the disbelievers, he replied <b>" i have not been sent as the invoker of curses, but i have been sent as mercY"</b>

even with animals he was merciful.

Muhammad pbuh was not revere by Muslims only, NO even Non Muslims do respect, honor and love him as we do.

Mahatma Gandhi, speaking on the character of Muhammad, (pbuh) says in his book (Young India) he says:

Quote:"I wanted to know the best of one who holds today's undisputed sway over the hearts of millions of mankind....I became more than convinced that it was not the sword that won a place for Islam in those days in the scheme of life. <b>It was the rigid simplicity, the utter self-effacement of the Prophet, the scrupulous regard for his pledges, his intense devotion to this friends and followers, his intrepidity, his fearlessness, his absolute trust in God and in his own mission</b>. These and not the sword carried everything before them and surmounted every obstacle. When I closed the 2nd volume (of the Prophet's biography), I was sorry there was not more for me to read of the great life."

Lamartine says:

"

Quote:If greatness of purpose, smallness of means, and astounding results are the three criteria of human genius, who could dare to compare any great man in modern history with Muhammad? The most famous men created arms, laws and empires only. They founded, if anything at all, no more than material powers which often crumbled away before their eyes. This man moved not only armies, legislations, empires, peoples and dynasties, but millions of men in one-third of the then inhabited world; and more than that, he moved the altars, the gods, the religions, the ideas, the beliefs and souls. . . his forbearance in victory, his ambition, which was entirely devoted to one idea and in no manner striving for an empire; his endless prayers, his mystic conversations with God, his death and his triumph after death; all these attest not to an imposture but to a firm conviction which gave him the power to restore a dogma. This dogma was twofold, the unity of God and the immateriality of God; the former telling what God is, the latter telling what God is not; the one overthrowing false gods with the sword, the other starting an idea with words.
"Philosopher, orator, apostle, legislator, warrior, conqueror of ideas, restorer of rational dogmas, of a cult without images; the founder of twenty terrestrial empires and of one spiritual empire, that is Muhammad. As regards all standards by which human greatness may be measured, <b>we may well ask, is there any man greater than he</b>?"

In the Encyclopedia Britannica it is stated that:

Quote:<b>"Muhammad is the most successful of all Prophets and religious personalities." </b>

George Bernard Shaw says:

Quote:If a man like Muhamed were to assume the dictatorship of the modern world, <b>he would succeed in solving its problems that would bring it the much needed peace and happiness</b>.

Michael H. Hart in his boo the 100 says:

Quote:"My choice of Muhammad to lead the list of the world's most influential persons may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, <b>but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular level."</b>

and on and on.. we may need to create millions of forums just to mention why do we revere this great Prophet of God.

ok here we go.

Quote:Do you as a Muslim love Mohammed more than Christ (taking the position for sake of question that Christ was a prophet and not God)?

<b>WE CONSIDER PROPHET MUHAMMAD PBUH TO BE DEARER THAN ONE'S OWN SELF.</b>

Narrated 'Abd Allah bin Hisham: 'We were with the Prophet (SAAW) and he was holding the hand of 'Umar ibnu Al-Khattab (RAA). 'Umar said to him, "O Allah's Messenger (SAAW)! You are dearer to me than everything except my ownself." Allah's Messenger (SAAW) said: "No, by Him in Whose Hand my soul is, (you will not have complete Faith) untill I am dearer to you than your ownself." Then 'Umar (RAA) said:"However, now, by Allah, you are dearer to me than my

ownself." He (SAAW) then said: <b>"Now, O 'Umar, (now you are a believer)."</b>

And the reason is, that without him people were astray, worshipping hundreds of gods, behaving as animals or may be worse, but the guidance was sent through him by Allah and the whole Arabia was transformed, people were ignorant and living in the darkness, but knowledge was sent through him by Allah, and on the day of Judgment he will be the only one to intercede and ask for Allah's forgiveness for his UMMAH (his nation). My own self can never do what he has done and what he is going to do. <b>therefore we love him more than our own selves.</b>

But as regards to Jesus pbuh and other prophets, we love them all, respect them all and believe in them all, we make no difference between any of them, they were all great prophets who came from the same God and preached the same message. The Qur'an says:

The Messenger believeth in what hath been revealed to him from his Lord, as do the men of faith. Each one (of them) believeth in Allah, His angels, His books, and His messengers. <b>"We make no distinction (they say) between one and another of His messengers." </b> And they say: "We hear, and we obey: (We seek) Thy forgiveness, our Lord, and to Thee is the end of all journeys."
Qur'an 2:285

Quote:Is the love and devotion to Mohammed contained in the Quran?

Yes. Plus Allah Himself LOVES HIM, he is the most beloved person to Allah. Then who are we not to love him?

We could summarize some of what is said in the Qur’an regarding the love for Prophet Muhammad as follows:

1.If you want to gain the love of Allah, follow him (3:31) in other words, if you Love Allah, you should also Love Prophet Muhammad. Because a person is naturally follow whom he loves.

2. Allah addresses him with love and affection (20:1) (36:1) (73:1) (74:1)

3. Allah says: Realise that My Prophetic Messenger himself is with you (49:7) in other words, therefore follow him.

4. Allah describes him with His Own Attributes of Rauf (Most Kind) and Rahim (Merciful) (9:128)

5. Allah Himself praises him (33:45-47)

6. Possessor of Allah's Grace (4:113)

7. He is a special favour of Allah (3:164)

8. Allah does not punish people if he is in their midst (8:33)

9. Allegiance to him is allegiance to Allah (48:10)

All these and more are clear proofs that we are commanded to love Prophet Muhammad pbuh by Allah in the Qur’an, and also in the Hadiths.

Hope this answer your question. But I believe there much more on this topic which can be added.

Yes, that answered my questions about that for now.

One followup on same topic...

What gave Mohammed the character that he had? Was he born that way? Was his character a result of his receiving God's word? Did God choose him as a prophet because he was such a good person, or did God predestine him to be his prophet?

God Almighty have chosen Muhammad pbuh to be the last and final prophet of God the day that Adam pbuh was created. The first thing that Adam have seen after he was created is the Shahadah i.e the declaration of faith in Islam which was written on the gates of paradise.. That is LA ILLAH ELLA ALLAH, MUHAMMADU-R-RASOOL-ULLAH. which means there is no other God but Allah, and Muhammad is His messenger.

That raises an interesting question. If he named Mohammed on the day that Adam was created than Allah must have known about the Jews supposed forgetting of Allah and even the Christians worshiping Christ right? Because, had the Jews kept Allah and had the Christians not worshiped Christ but accepted him as a prophet of Allah then Mohammed may not have been necessary?

Quite the opposite. God Declared Mohammed, peace be upon him, as the final messenger before he sent down Adam A.S and other prophets.

The Soul of a person is diffrent from the physical body. ;)

As I mentioned to you before CC, the Jews did worship Allah and did call Him Allah, and so did the early Christians too and until now the name Allah exist in their scriptures, but through time the message kept on changing and that's why it was necessary for Allah to send Muhammad as a mercy to the whole worlds. Other prophets were only sent to their people.

I am interested in what you believe about Mohammed. You do make a false claim that Allah is in the Bible. Just because Elah sounds like Allah doesn't mean that Allah is in the bible. I have a friend whose last name is "Hadler" does that mean his grandfather was "Hitler"? They look and sound similar.

The Jews or Christians never worshipped Allah.

<b></b>

Quote:<b></b><b>Contrary to Muslim claims, the word "Allah" is never found in the Bible in either Hebrew and Greek. The closest two words we find are the Hebrew "alah" (which means to curse, mourn or rise, and is never applied to God) and the Hebrew word "Elah" (Strongs 425) which means has been translated either oak or turpentine tree. Isa 6:13. So apart form the superficial similarity in appearance arguing Allah is in the Bible because of similarities, is like saying Mormon is in the Qur'an because it looks like Muslim.</b>
<b></b>
<b></b>
<b></b>

Quote:<b></b><b>The first Arabic translation of the Bible came into existence about the 9th century. Nowhere is the name of Allah found in the Old or New Testament</b>
<b></b>
<b></b>
<b></b>

Quote:<b></b><b> praise the Lord". So the similarity is not only invalid, it is in the wrong part of the compound word. "Allah" corresponds to "let us praise" rather than, "YAH" which is the short form of "Jehovah". So Deedat misspells the Hebrew word, finds similarity in the wrong part of the word, misspells YA and says it means "OH", when in fact it is YAH, which is a shortened "Jehovah", and fails to recognize the word "Hallelujah" literally means, "Praise Jehovah", which is the universally accepted meaning for 3500 years, until Deedat comes along! This is not a credit to Deedat's alleged educational credentials.</b>
