as-salam
sneezing is considered ablessing from God.the manners concerning it are these
1)a muslim should not seek to restrain asneeze.it isa healthy function
2)when about to sneeze amuslimshould turn his faceaway or cover his mouth and nose with hand or hankerchief thus lessening the noise&at the same timeavoiding nuisance to those nearby
3)since sneezing is considered ablessingfrom god amuslim should acknowledge this by saying:Alhamdulillah(praise&thanks to Allah)
4)when amuslim sneezes& praises God,those who hear should awoke ablessing on himby saying:yarhamuka Allah(may god have mercyon you)
5)it is right to invoke blessing on one who sneezes at the most three times.if he sneezes more than three timesthis probably means he or she has cold..
6)if amuslimsneezes and doesnot praise godthen invoking ablessing on him isnot required
7)if amuslim sneezes &forgets topraise god then it is theduty of muslims near him to remind him kindly of his duty to thank God
8)Blessing for anon-muslim who sneezes should be expressed in words:Yahdikum Allah

Yawning is considered to be bad &as far as possible should be suppressed
1)try to refrainfrom yawning as much as possible
2)when yawning hold his hand over his mouth &say ahuzu billahi mina shaitanir rageem(i seek refuge with Allah from satan, the curesed)
3)try not to make any sound when yawning

Jameela started those two useful threads on another room, I thought it would be more beneficial to merge them into one thread and move it here.
Brothers and sisters, we can really make use of this excellent idea, continue posting manners on other issues; ex: going into the toillette, coming out of the toillet, wearing a new garment, seeing the crescent...etc.
We can really build an excellent resource here.

Assalam allikum
Now I understand when praying you shpuld refrain from yawning.But since I've been trained as an acotr I know that yawning is good for opening up the jaw or we will or get locked jaw. A bit of an exageration. But when people get stressed some people hold the tension in there jaw so just by yawning it realeses the tension. So I think yawning is good for this reason.

lol ive neva heard a betta reason to yarn in my life !!! im gonna use that next time in class when i get told of 4 yawning.....

Alliex, in general u must restrain the yawning, even when u r not praying. As the hadeeth mentions ( i will look for it Insh a Allah) u must put your hand and cover your mouth. Otherwise, sorry for this, Shaytan urinates in your mouth making u very lazy and uncomfortable. In general as well u must not make any sound while yawning.

Assalm allikum,
Musllimah of course cover your mouth when you yawn other wise it might seem quite rude and I don't think I want Satan urinating in my mouth. But yawning is a good exercise all the same. It is keeping those muscle active.
I think other people should educate me on Muslim etiquette since I am not an expert on such things.

Why wait for a yawn to exercise your mouth?
Just open it up real wide and stretch it while not yawning. I do this all the time because of tension build up in my jaw.
