Recipes
#1

Assalamu Alaikum,

I have LOTS of recipes that kids can make -- either with an adult helper, or even by themselves! I will post a few here inshaAllah and I think it would be nice to make a new forum section for kids' recipes.

Let me know what you think!

Welcome to the Kitchen!

It's fun for kids to learn how to cook, and is a wonderful skill to have. Getting ready to cook is easy:

1
Find an adult who can help you. Always read through the recipe with your adult helper so you can ask questions. Your helper will show you how to use kitchen tools and will help you handle the hot pots and pans.

2
Get dressed for cooking. If you have long hair, pull it back so it won't get in the food. If you have long sleeves, roll them up so they will stay out of your way. Always wash your hands with plenty of soap and water before you start to work. If you like, put on an apron to keep your clothes clean.

3
Take out all the ingredients and equipment you will need. It is important to make sure you have everything you need before you start cooking. Measure the ingredients to be sure you have enough, and put them all in one place.

Kitchen Safety

It's important to be careful while you're cooking. Follow these tips to stay safe in the kitchen, and ALWAYS ask an adult for help when you need it.

1
Always use hot pads to handle anything hot. Remember that anything you take out of the oven or off the stove is probably hot and will stay hot for a while. If you've had a metal spoon in a hot dish, it's probably hot, too. Turn pot handles toward the middle of the stove so you don't bump them.

2
Spilled food can make you slip and fall. Keep a damp cloth or paper towels nearby to wipe up anything you spill as soon as you spill it. It will make cleanup faster, too.

3
Sharp knives are dangerous. Always hold food firmly on a cutting board, and keep your fingers out of the way when you use a sharp knife. Never hold food in your hands when you cut it. Be sure your adult helper helps you every time you use a sharp knife. Be sure an adult is standing by when you use electric appliances like can openers, blenders and mixers. They can be tricky to use.

One more thing to remember... CLEAN UP!
Put away all the ingredients and equipment you have used. Store leftover food. Wash, dry and put away dishes. Clean up all spills. If you don't clean the kitchen, the head cook may not let you use it again [Image: smile.gif]

Assalamu aleikum sister,

Ramadan makes the kitchen interesting [Image: wink.gif]

Sister I think it is a very good idea. And good advices to the children. I liked the tip about cleaning up afterwards [Image: rolleyes.gif]

Perhaps all the recipes that will come up can be added into this same thread? Instead of making a new post? Just a thought.

Will not try any sweet recipe myself for the moment - I am fasting! But within a couple of weeks I will look deeper into them, insha'Allah. Thanks sister for sharing.

Laian I like your recipes (yummie).

Try this recipe, I hope the steps are easy to follow

I'm not sure if you can all buy mangos where you are, but sometimes you can get mango gulps in cans.

We buy them from the market fresh.

Things you neeed

1 a blender,

2 sugar

3 Mangos, (If you have a big family) you need atleast 4 or 5 mangos

4 Water

First you peel the skin off the mangos. Then cut it in whatever style you like aslong its small enough to go inside the blender. When you have done that to all of your mangos and they're all cut, put them in the blender and add water atleast 2 cups of water and sugar ( amount: as sweet as you like). Than just mix it all together.

And voila your done you have your mango drinks, on hot days its impossible to get that down if liek it cold, Leave it in the fridge for a few minutes to get cold. and finito.

Sorry if my instructions are hard to follow.

Another one

This is what I make its like a cocktail shacke.

1 Strawberries, you need atleast 9 or 10 ( sorry i'm thinking with a mind of a person who comes from a big family) Its hard for me to cook something small.

2 bananas maybe 2 or 3, cut them

3 Peaches ( Best to have the ones in cans, because they're nice & soft, and in light syrup)

4 Milk 4 cups, if you prefer water you can use water but it tastes better with milk

When you have mixed that all, just like with the mango, you can put it in the fridge and wait for awhile or drink it like that.

Ps: don't fall on the banana peels
