A Common Problem I Notice Alot Lately.....
#11

Shaunee, Hi I hope you are well. I just wanted to say I agree you should not wait if you really wish to begin to follow Islam. I think you should relax about your husband. I was married at the time I found Islam in my heart, and at that time my husband was much like you described yours to be. But to my amazement, his attitude changed totally about religion, and now masha Allah he is a practicing Muslim. And if you do something for the sake of Allah, then Allah will make your way easy for you. Just be patient with everything, and things will be just fine.

Ok, let me ask you this.....

If I was to go to a Masjid... would an eman take my shahada officially? Or would he protest that I must divorce?

Yes you'd be able to take your shahada in the mosque with the help of the Imaams presence and some other witnesses. And No, no one will ask you to get divorced first. I have never heard of Imams protesting against someone willing to take their shahada (for any reason whatsoever) even if its the biggest criminal of all time, they're job is to encourage you to say your shahada not the opposite.

Salam Shaunee,

Sister Intuition already explained this well, I will only add that stating Shahadah, is between you and Allah, SWT. You testify that you believe in Him and His last Messenger. It is like giving a promise that you convey your faith in Him. The witnesses can help you with the practical things. They may state the Shahadah and you may repeat after them, so the pronunciation in Arabic becomes easy for you.

Shaunee I pray to Allah, SWT that He gives you strength to follow what your heart says i right. My thoughts are with you.

Salam

Thank you.... I have to say... the people in this group are the easiest people to talk to! [Image: biggrin.gif] Everyone has been so much more understanding than others that I've conversed with.

I know my posts got to be rather redundant after a while... but I just had to ask. About a week ago.... in another Muslim forum.. there was a woman who sooo wanted to be a Muslim.... and she was upset because she was told the same thing I was... so I felt really bad for her.

Over a year ago, I was in her position... so I just gave up thinking about being a Muslim...... because it just seemed impossible to do. So I stopped thinking about it... I stopped reading and studying about Islam. I even made my Catholic sacraments of Holy Communion, Pennance and Reconciliation, and Confirmation just this year. But when I read her post..... I suppose it brought back memories.... so I just gave the subject one more run for it's money. A totally different response indeed.

I've been talking with a friend in Egypt... he's been sending me info, i.e. Ahmed Deedat's lectures and books.... and articles to read about the faith here and there. We were chatting this morning, and he confirmed everything that I've read here. He even told me about a council that met on the subject and that there are scholars that say women who are married can revert to Islam, but only given the fact that the women remains in the marriage for purposes of dawa...... and that she does not practice the Christian religion... attend the services... (unlike Yasser Arrafat's wife [Image: ohmy.gif] )

So..... I said my Shahada privately.... during conversation with my friend this morning.... but I suppose I would have to make it official one day. Which leads me to another question.....

Is it absolutely necessary to say it with two witnesses, or with iman in order to make it official.... what if for instance.... someone says it privately.... but never officially.... does it matter?

Assalamu aleikum dear sister Shaunee,

Alhamdulillah you took the step! Let me embrace you and wish you welcome to the Muslim Ummah sister.

If I may leave the practicals for just now, I just wanted to write a line to you (its prayer time) just to tell you that my tears are falling down and I am so happy for you so I just had to sent you a note to let you know.

There will be much to write about sister, take care for now,

Wasalam your sister in faith

[Image: ohmy.gif] Asalaam Alaikum sister!!!!!!!! Wow this is some good news to come home to after a stressful day. Allah is with you now and so are you brothers and sisters right here!! For me, now was the hardest part. I remember pronouncing my Shahada alone in my apartment, tears down my face. It was very powerful also very nerve racking because i knew my family came next.

Allah will guide you now, and you are also in the best place at these forums. Look at my early posts http://www.islamsms.com/bb/index.php?showtopic=1887 and how i was guided by my brothers and sisters here. I had so many questions and this forum answered all of them. Insha Allah this forum will remain!!

But no, you don't know how happy it made me to read this, even if you take your steps slowly when announcing to family, never rush it, take your time, pray Allah will help you. I thought my girlfriend would not let me see my daughter but Allah softened her heart. I still havent told mine or friends, just Ex girlfriend and it's been a good few months since i pronounced Shahada. In fact i need to go to a Mosque to do it officially. Allahu Akbar, sister welcome aboard!

Take things slowly, Allah is watching over you and will guide you. As difficult as it may seem, and you'll probably get a heap of crazy emails from some of the guests who roam these boards i did. All sorts of madness, let us know. There's a positive site to counter every negative one someone will send you. You've cheered me up for the night now! [Image: biggrin.gif]

Peace Shaunee,

Well if u re read Anya's post u will understand a lot, as well as Dan's Jennifer's. I am not sure where did your Egyptian friend bring this info from. What the members wanted to convey to u, is that dont delay your faith declaration if u truly believe about it, dont worry, just do it and Allah Shall arrange the best. But as far as if u can continue being married to the man, as far as I know, a Muslim woman can not be married to a non Muslim. U may confirm this from a scholar. But I know this for fact. What the members wanted to tell u is that Allah Can Arrange miracles. Beside the most important is never to compare Allah with human beings for what u r looking for is your final destination.

I had to bring this to your attention Shanuee and if u did pronounce shahada well congratulation sister

Asalamalaykum Shaunee,

I am sooo happy that I can finally great you with Asalamalaykum because from the moment you said your shahada on we became Sisters.

What a time to revert to ISLAM, in this sacred and holy month of Ramadhan, subhanALLAH. The reward of deeds in this month is tenfold, subhanALLAH.

I am soooo happy I decided to quickly pop in here this morning [Image: biggrin.gif] , You have made my day, you have made a great day even greater for me, and more than that. I know that many sisters here have prayed for your guidance, and I have joined them.

Never is any news as wonderful as when we gain a new sister. May Allah strengthen you, continue to guide you until your last breath, and bless you from His Abundance. Welcome to the brotherhood and sisterhood of Islam Sister Shaunee, you should go to a mosque even though you are nothing short of being a Muslim now.

And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah and does righteousness and says, Indeed, I am of the Muslims} (41: 33)

SubhanaAllah just last week, I was crying non-stop constantly feeling emotional all the time, because a new revert sister died, she was only married for 2 months [Image: sad.gif] . And now i am crying again, out of happiness because we have gained another new sister.

Alahu akbar!!!!!!!

I'm not saying that the law was changed... yes it's true... that's why I was even bringing the subject up... however.... there have been Muslim women marrying non-Muslims.... especially here in the West.... and I suppose that a bunch of scholars got to discussing this matter, and in the process came up the discussion of being Muslim first, and then getting married, and then the issue of the revert, who is already married....

If I was born a Muslim.... then me being married to a Catholic right now would be just horrid.

On the other hand.... I have gone into this marriage as a Christian... and now I want to revert..... so here it's a bit of a different circumstance... and a growing problem today as well. There is without a doubt hadith.... where a women goes to or is brought to Mohammed, and she is told by the prophet that she should divorce. She agreed.... there was other hadith (not sure if it's a "weak" one though.. where someone's spouse later reverted.

So.... during this council.... (I'll have to get details and post it)... this issue of intereligious(sp) comes up.... women who are married Christians ALL OVER the WORLD.... are asking why they cannot revert, and why must they tear up a family... so...... what was given to them was time to convert their husbands.... but no one knows how long this could take. No one knows when a person would die. But what we do know is... that the percentage of reverts of men, after their wives worked on them was high.

There are no exceptions made really in Islam... but sometimes the application of laws have been somewhat "delayed"..... for instance a new revert not wearing the hijab immediately after saying shahada.... some people need time to adjust.... however, not forgeting what is mandatory.

I'll leave this as it is for now..... and I'll be sure to check back here with more info on the subject.... I will either get this from my friend... or go searching myself.
