Jihad = War/fighting?

Salam alaikum!


I know I have not been around much, but I do still read here and other places.

It is an article about preparing for Jihad.


Up until now, I believed "Jihad" meant any struggle you do in the cause of God. Such struggles could be writting a book, building a masjid - anything you can do in the cause of God.


But the article above clearly defines Jihad as a term of violent acts (whether one feels they are justified or not, war and fighting is still violence).


How can Islam be the religion of peace, when such articles exist?


To struggle and do for the cause of God, I do not need to know how to opperate mortars, ak-47's, and know martial arts. I can do for the cause of God without violence.


Do muslims really think Muhammad (pbuh) had ak-47's and mortars? Why then, does the author of the article above believe those things are necessary for Jihad?


Do you agree with that article?

I dont think Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) had ak 47 and mortars, as well as knew kong fu. that site gave me a good laugh, no seriously. I was a yellow belt in karate when i was 10, does that add up to my martial arts training? I dont have live amunations, but I do have old bb guns, is that ok for my fire arms training? I used to play with fire works, is that concidered mortar training? ha ha nice website, ofcourse Jihad is obligatory for many non violent activities, such as being a good father and husband, or mother and wife.


Wait a sec, did you read the bottom of the site, it says it's from azzam.com, isnt Abdullah Azzam the head of the mujahideen in afghanistan before he got assasinated in 1989?

My dear friend John, non of these events are in the name of Jihad. They just use Jihad as a means of attacking enemies. This is a big mistake.

UPDATE: more than 1200 hostages taken, over 600 wounded, and over 150 confirmed killed.

I am so surprised of the attitude of members on this thread specially Muslims, no one cared to really explain to Joshua, instead started making fun of what is called killing. I think we went through the issue of Jihad on this forum enough and we have Mash a Allah excellent resources on it.


I will check them Josh and copy post links.


However, just on a side note Joshua:


Evey Muslim must be physically fit in case of an attack on Muslim land. I really didnt read the article, however, I am just replying to your points made here.


Originally, a Muslim according to a hadeeth must teach his children swimming, archery and horse back riding. Why u think we must learn this, in case of any aggression against Muslim land we will be able to handle.


Now as u understand, Jihad does contain more that the physical fight, which is one part of Jihad and must not be underestimated.
