Best English-tranlation Qur'an Is..?
#1

Last week I began my class called History and Development of Islamic Thought at the university and I am VERY excited! My professor is Dr. Siddiqi.

In our first meeting I learned that that the Arabic Qur'an is the word of Allah, and that the english translation is inferior and not divine. I regret to tell you that I don't know Arabic or how to read it, and so am forced to find an english translationof the Qur'an.

I asked Dr. Siddiqi which english translation was the most faithful to the original Arabic, and he recommended the translation by Yusef Ali, and so I plan to go get that one. Would you recommend this one as well?

I was just wondering. Thanks for your input.

Sincerely,

Student

Hi Student

I would also recommend Yusuf Ali. His translation is really excellent, there is also another one that is quite nice by Mohammed Khan. My favorite one is translated by Muhammad Marmaduke William Pickthall aka Pickthall.

I personally don't believe that to be true, Allah is the most great and the most just, if that was true than Allah would make us all (mankind) native speakers of the arabic language. Because Allah doesn't favor anyone over anyone else except when it comes to piety and faith. The Quraan is the message of Allah to all mankind why would he want one type of people to have the ability to understand his message better and others any less. AstaqfuruAllah.

Thats ok [Image: smile.gif] . The Quran was revealed in Arabic, but Allah promised to be its teacher (55:1-4) and the One to explain it (75:18-19). Allah told us in the verse (41:44) that language is irrelevant, and that only the sincere ones are going to understand the Quran irrespective of their language; while those who are not sincere or who fail to worship Him alone will fail to understand it, even if they speak, read, and write Arabic (56:79).

The Quran is a message, not just another beautiful language book. We have to trust in Allah and know that He is the teacher of the Quran. He will teach it in any language and to any nationality, He created all things.

May be I am late on my reply, but with all due respect yes I see Yusuf Ali as good, but I still would recommend u visit:

www.quran.nu

The translation Mash aAllah is excellent and most close to Arabic meanings, the style of Quran itself is incomparable. Sobhan Allah, I am 49 and Alhamdulelah Allah Allowed me to read the whole book many times and at each time u stop at different Ayahs as though u r reading them for first time and u interact with the chapters in different manners each time. The book is a miracle Alhamdulelah
