Unique traits of some of the Companions
#1

Collected by Ibn Maajah and at-Tirmidhee, on the authority of Anas bin Maalik, Radiy Allaahu Ta3aalaa 3anh, that Allaah's Messenger said, Sallallaahu 3alayhi wa Sallam:

"The most merciful of my Ummah towards my Ummah is Aboo Bakr. The strongest of them in Allaah's Religion is 'Umar. The most truly bashful of them is 'Uthmaan. The most correct of them in judgements [court, etc.] is 'Alee bin Abee Taalib. The most knowledgeable of them in the recitation of the Qur'aan is 'Ubayy bin Ka3b. The most knowledgeable of them in the issues of Halaal and Haraam is Mu3aadh bin Jabal. The most knowledgeable of them in the rules of inheritance is Zayd bin Thaabit. And indeed each Ummah has a very trustworthy person, and that trustworthy person of this Ummah is Aboo 3ubaydah bin al-Jarraa7."

al-Albaanee declared it to be Saheeh according to the standards of al-Bukhaaree and Muslim. See as-Silsilah as-Saheehah #1224 (also, Saheeh al-Jaami3 #895). It was also declared Saheeh by Muqbil bin Haadee al-Waadi3ee in his book, Irshaad Dhuw al-Fatan Li Ib3aad Ghulaat ar-Rawaafid min al-Yaman.

The Arabic wording from Sunan Ibn Maajah:

أرحم أمتي بأمتي أبو بكر وأشدهم في دين الله عمر وأصدقهم حياء عثمان وأقضاهم علي بن أبي طالب وأقرؤهم لكتاب الله أبي بن كعب وأعلمهم بالحلال والحرام معاذ بن جبل وأفرضهم زيد بن ثابت ألا وإن لكل أمة أمينا وأمين هذه الأمة أبو عبيدة بن الجراح
