Answers to some Hadith and Quran ayats
#1

Recently, a Christian I was speaking to in the net gave me some hadith concerning the Prophet saaw and Islam. He misinterperated them, so I had to find an explaination.

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 662:

Narrated Anas:

The Prophet said, "Listen and obey (your chief) even if an Ethiopian whose head is like a raisin were made your chief."

ANSWER: this hadeeth is correct, but here he is not being a racist, he is talking to people who were very racist so he wanted to establish the fact that they must obey the ruler whoever he was, according to them they must accept him even if he was black not because he felt so.

Narrated 'Aisha:

Magic was worked on Allah's Apostle so that he began to imagine that he had done something although he had not. One day while he was with me, he invoked Allah and invoked for a long period and then said, "O 'Aisha! Do you know that Allah has instructed me regarding the matter I asked Him about?" I asked, "What is that, O Allah's Apostle?" He said, "Two men came to me; one of them sat near my head and the other sat near my feet. One of them asked his companion, 'What is the disease of this man?' The other replied, 'He is under the effect of magic.' …

ANSWER: Prophet Mohamed sallah Allah a`alyhee wa salam was a human being, Allah made sure we know this very well so that people never ascribe anything divine to him. Thus what ever a human being may suffer he suffered in order to give us means of handling things. He married, divorced, lost children, suffered poverty, was under unjust situations, accused of horrible things. In each situation he made a sunnah for us to follow. This hadeeth refers to the incident when Lubayd Ibn Al Assam a very clever jewish magician made magic on him out of the strong hatred and envy jews had for him. Yes he suffered that he used to think he had intimate relation with his wives while he didn't. However, this never demeans the authinticity of the revelation. Because even then he just kept invoking upon Allah to show him the reason of his suffering. Until Allah sent him also Jabriel and Mikael to treat him and tell him about the magic. That is when Allah revealed Surat falaq and Annas to be used by every muslim who is under witchcraft. nothing in the life of the Messenger PAPBUH happended haphazordly. Eveything had a reason, it contained instructions for us to follow and know.

2:106

None of Our revelations do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, but We substitute something better or similar: Knowest thou not that Allah Hath power over all things?

ANSWER: In this ayah, Allah explains that some rulings made through Ayahs shall be changed (abrogated). For instance Allah did not make khamr (alcoh drinking prohibited) at one time, but rather made it through stages, revealing an ayah after the other. So the last ayah would abrogate the preceding ones and so forth. Also another example is Ayah:

"O you who believe! Fear Allâh (by doing all that He has ordered and by abstaining from all that He has forbidden) as He should be feared. [Obey Him, be thankful to Him, and remember Him always], " (Quran 3:102). When this ayah was revealed the comanions suffered a great deal, standing all night praying and crying trying to make much effort. Then Allah sobhanhu wa ta`ala mitigated the ruling by revealing ayah (64:16):"So keep your duty to Allâh and fear Him as much as you can". Look at the difference the second one came as as much as u can which abrogated the first one saying as He should be. Since no one can really fulfill this obligation of fearing Allah as much as He must be feared.

In other occaisons incident like this happended for which Allah abrogated ayahs. However, under no condition this takes from the authinticity of the Quran. It is from Allah Alhamdulelah, and because it is from Allah the Creator Who Knows what is best for His Creation, He replaces and changes. Just exactly like when the Messenger of Allah sallah Allah a`alyhee wa sallam ascended to the skies and received the command for Salat. Allah started by 50 prayers /day and ended after the Prophet pleaded to Him with 5 only with the reward of 50. It does not mean Allah changes His mind or not sure of what He is doing .no it means that He is the Merciful who already Knows that this would happen but wanting to show us His Mercy. As for the part of cause to be forgotten, it referrs to holy books of David and Ibraheem for example which are totally forgotten now and replaced by Quran not the quran itself.

And Allah Knows best

The Quran limits the amount of wives that a man can have at a time to 4. But it is thought that the Prophet pbuh had 9 wives, at the same time (or was it over a period of time). I ask this since the rule in the Quran is for 4 wives.

ANSWER: a good research on the marraiges of the prophet

and yes he kept 9. his wives were not allowed to marry after him, so when the ruling on only 4 wives was decreed he was not allowed to divorce any of them, since they can not remarry because they will be his wives in Jannah, neither was he allowed to take any more.
