Rushing through prayer
#1

When the leader of a prayer rushes very quickly through the prayer, is the prayer accepted? For example: If you have just said 'Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Raheem.....' and the leader is already saying 'Allahu akbar' to go into raku before you could ever possibly say al-Fatiah is this valid? And should you then redo the prayer?

I am asking on behalf of another.

Any insight you can offer will be appreiciated. [Image: biggrin.gif]

Question:

Assalamou Alaiykoum,

I wanted to know if you are in a hurry to go somewhere or something, but have to attend the sullah first, is it okay if you perform the sullat a little faster than usual?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

If the prayer is done properly, with all the obligatory actions included and with proper composure throughout, then there is nothing wrong with making your prayer shorter than usual.

And Allaah is the Source of help.

Salam alikom

However prayer without Fatiha is not valid .I think an imam who does not give people he is leading time to say Al-fatiha is a superfast one [Image: laugh.gif] ,somebody should advise him to slow if all people agree he is fast!!!-----------------------------------------------------------

Question:

Is it permissible for one who is praying behind the imaam to recite Qur’aan along with the imaam, when the imaam is reciting a lengthy passage?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

It is not permissible for one who is praying behind the imaam in a prayer in which Qur’aan is to be recited aloud to recite anything in addition to al-Faatihah. Rather after that he has to listen to the imaam’s recitation (i.e., after reciting al-Faatihah), because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Perhaps you recite behind your imaam?” They said, “Yes,” He said, “Do not do that, except for the Opening of the Book (al-Faatihah), for there is no prayer for the one who does not recite it.” And because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“So, when the Qur’aan is recited, listen to it, and be silent that you may receive mercy”[al-A’raaf 7:204]

And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When the imaam recites, then listen attentively.”

The only exception made to that is with regard to al-Faatihah, because of the hadeeth quoted above and because of the general meaning of the hadeeth, “There is no prayer for the one who does not recite the Opening of the Book.” (Saheeh, agreed upon).

Sister Jennifer, your question have 2 sides to it:

If the Imam is rushing with the prayer to the point that you can't follow him while taking your time with each of the Salat rukn then his Salat is not right and has to be repeated according to the following Hadith:

Sahih Muslim:

Book 004, Hadith Number 0781.

------------------------------

Chapter : The reciting of Takbir at the time of bowing and rising in prayer except rising after Ruku' when it is said: Allah listened to him who praised Him.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) entered the mosque and a person also entered therein and offered prayer, and then came and paid salutation to the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) returned his salutation and said: Go back and pray, for you have not offered the prayer (because he was rushing in his prayer). He again prayed as he had prayed before, and came to the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) and saluted him. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) returned the salutation and said: Go back and pray, for you have not offered the prayer. This (act of repeating the prayer) was done three times. Upon this the person said: By Him Who hast sent you with Truth, whatever better I can do than this, please teach me. He (the Holy Prophet) said: When you get up to pray, recite takbir, and then recite whatever you conveniently can from the Qur'an, then bow down and remain quietly in that position, then raise yourself and stand erect; then prostrate yourself and remain quietly in that attitude; then raise yourself and sit quietly; and do that throughout all your prayers.[/color:392307f514]

Book 004, Hadith Number 0782.

------------------------------

Chapter : The reciting of Takbir at the time of bowing and rising in prayer except rising after Ruku' when it is said: Allah listened to him who praised Him.

Abu Huraira reported: A person entered the mosque and said prayer while the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) was sitting in a nook (of the mosque), and the rest of the hadith is the same as mentioned above, but with this addition: "When you get up to pray, perform the ablution completely, and then turn towards the Qibla and recite takbir (Allah-u-Akbar - Allah is the Most Great)."[/color:392307f514]

The 2nd side is that if you entered into the Salat while the Imam is saying the takbir for raku, then you follow him and u don't have to recite the Fatah and you don't have to repeat that rakaa. If you miss the raku in the Salat, then you have to repeat after he finishes the prayer whichever rakat that u missed.

Also, you don't have to recite the Fatah behind the Imam in the Loud prayers (Fajr, Maghrib, Isha, Friday and Taraweeh) but only say Ameen as he supplements all that he is leading. In the silent prayers (Zohr and Asr), you must recite the Fatah and a Surah or part of Surah if you can, once he says takbir for Raku, then u stop reciting and follow him.

Jazak Allah Khair Abu Noran for posting these hadiths.

I am asking about 'speed prayer' when you feel like a chicken pecking the ground, and your response is very helpful.

As-salaam Alikum,

Wa eyakum sister.

Quote:'speed prayer' when you feel like a chicken pecking the ground[/quote:24b2f648aa]Then the Hadith applies to him, his Salat is not accepted and him and whoever was praying behind him has to repeat the Salat and someone has to bring this to his attention, if he continues to do the same then simply don't pray behind him because his prayer is not accepted and nither will yours unless you repeat your prayer.
