Warning from carelessness which leads to apostasy!!! - Abu Dujanah - 11-22-2003

Bismillaahir-Rahmaanir-Raheem

as-Salaamu 3alaykum,

Allaah (Jalla Fee 3ulaah) Says (~translation): {O you who believe, do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet; nor be loud to him in talk like the loudness of some of you to one another, lest your deeds become void while you perceive not.} [soorat al-Hujuraat v. 2]

This Aayah is used as a proof, by the scholars, that a person might say or do things which are Major Kufr, without even realizing, yet the person apostates from Islaam. How? Because the Aayah indicates that a person's deeds can become void, erased, and cancelled due to words he might say, that he does not perceive. Invalidation of all good deeds only occurs because of apostasy. The Aayah is indicating that someone might say things with the Prophet (Sallallaahu 3alayhi wa 3alaa Aalihee wa Sallam) and lose control of himself, until he might unawaringly say something which is disrespectful and apostasy.

Allaah (Jalla Fee 3ulaah) Says (~translation): {And (mention, O Muhammad) when Ibraaheem said, "My Lord, make this city (Makkah) secure and keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols. My Lord, indeed they have led astray many among the people.} [soorat Ibraaheem v. 35 - 36]

This Aayah indicates the tremendous fear a Muslim should have when practicing his Religion. If the father of the Prophets, Allaah's intimate friend (Khaleel ar-Rahmaan), crusher of idols, who was guided in his youth, grew up upon sound and pure Fitrah (inert nature), fears for his ownself from worshipping idols because they lead many astray! Then what about us? This is why many of the scholars say that the people of our times who say "Why should I be scared? Why so much emphasis on Tawheed and warning against Shirk. Aren't we all Muslims? Isn't this obvious?" and those who do not constantly fear for themselves and make Du3aa' that their hearts are firm, not seeking refuge with their Lord from Shirk and Kufr, are just naive fools.

The Prophet (Sallallaahu 3alayhi wa 3alaa Aalihee wa Sallam) said, "Indeed, a man might utter a word carelessly that angers Allaah the Exalted, and on its account, he is cast in the Fire farther than the distance between the heavens and earth." [al-Bukhaaree #6478]

Like the first Aayah quoted, this indicates the scary easiness of apostasy, because one might say a word carelessly, not intending its consequences (Takfeer and/or punishment), yet be punished in Hellfire. So why do many Muslims make statements, not giving them any thought? Some statements of Kufr even, just to make others laugh or prove a so-called point!

Brothers, this is addressed to everyone, please do not think of yourself "I'm excused." Do you think you are better than Ibraaheem? The point is that you might know that such and such is Kufr, but not be careful about saying it yourself. So be careful!

And lastly, al-Imaam Muhammad bin 'Abdil-Wahhaab (Rahimahullaahu Ta3aalaa) said, "...This should cause great fear, because a person might make a statement, out of ignorance, yet his is not excused due to ignorance." [Kashf ash-Shubuhaat]

This explains the great danger of making statements or doing things carelessly, not weighing the consequences. Please think about this.

Lastly, I want to state, this is a refutation of those who say that a Muslim cannot apostate from Islaam by words or deeds except when he intends to leave Islaam by such! This is obvious and apparent deviance, inherited by the evil Murji'ah and Jahmeeyah.

Ibn Taymeeyah (Rahimahullaahu Ta3aalaa) said(paraphrased), "It is unimaginable in the first place that a person would do an act intentionally to leave Islaam, rather in that case it would just be Kufr upon Kufr (meaning more and more Kufr)."

Allaah Knows best.
