Many people say that if an animal was killed for eating puropses, then it is halaal to eat. Even if it was killed by a non-muslim; "just say Bismillah and it's good to eat". They claim this is Imam Shaafi's law. What is the correct ruling because I saw in Al Qur'an Qur'an CH 6 v 118-121 the ruling about eating only that on which Allah's name is mentioned... Any Suggestions ?

i'd like to share with you these verses regarding Halal food.
2:173 - He hath only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that on which any other name hath been invoked besides that of God. but if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits, then is he guiltless. for God is oft forgiving most merciful.
5:3 - Forbidden to you (your food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on wish hath been invoked the name of other than God; that which hath been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by being gored to death; than which hath been (partly) eaten by a wild animal; unless ye are able to slaughter it (in due form); that which is sacrificed on stone (altars); (forbidden) also is the division (of meat) by raffling with arrows: that is impiety. this day have those who reject faith given up all hope of your religion: yet fear them not but fear me. this day have I perfected your religion for you, completed my favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion. but if any is forced by hunger, with no inclination transgression, God is indeed oft forgiving, most merciful.
6-119 - Why should ye not eat of (meats) on which God's name hath been pronounced, when he hath explained to you in detail what is forbidden to you except under compulsion of necessity? but many do mislead (men) by their appetites unchecked by knowledge. thy lord knoweth best those who transgress.
6:145 - Say: I find not in the message received by me by inspiration any (meat) forbidden to be eaten by one who wishes to eat it, unless it be dead meat, or blood poured forth, or the flesh of swine, for it is an abomination or, what is impious, (meat) on which a name has been invoked, other than God's. but (even so), if a person is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits, thy lord is oft forgiving, most merciful.
16:115 - He has only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and any (food) over which the name of other than God has been invoked. but if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits, then God is oft forgiving, Most Merciful.
so in my opinion. animal must be slaughter by Muslim at least you will be sure that he is dealing nicely with the animal. but as the verses explained "but if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits, then God is oft forgiving, Most Merciful".

What about animals that are hunted, and are shot by a bullet and there is no time to Halaal it properly? and is Iguana (a reptile which only eats plants) permissible to eat ?

Here are a few haddiths I found for you, in sha Allah these will help. As far as the Iguana goes I do not know on this matter. I will try to find out more on that in sha Allah.

I asked Allah's Apostle about Al Mirad (i.e. a sharp-edged piece of wood or a piece of wood provided with a piece of iron used for hunting). He replied, "If the game is hit by its sharp edge, eat it, and if it is hit by its broad side, do not eat it, for it has been beaten to death." I asked, "O Allah's Apostle! I release my dog by the name of Allah and find with it at the game, another dog on which I have not mentioned the name of Allah, and I do not know
which one of them caught the game." Allah's Apostle said (to him), 'Don't eat it as you have mentioned the name of Allah on your dog and not on the other dog."
Narrated Ibn Umar
The Prophet said, "Whoever keeps a (pet) dog which is neither a watch dog nor a hunting dog, will get a daily deduction of two Qirat from his good deeds."
Narrated Abu Thalaba Al Khushani
I came to Allah's Apostle and said, "O Allah's Apostle! We are living in the land of the people of the Scripture and we take our meals in their utensils, and in the land there is game and I hunt with my bow and trained or untrained hounds; please tellmewhat is lawful for us of that." He said, "As for your saying that you are living in the land of the people of the Scripture and that you eat in their utensils, if you can get utensils other than theirs, do not eat in their utensils, but if you do not find (other than theirs), then wash their utensils and eat in them. As for your saying that you are in the land of game, if you hunt something with your bow, and have mentioned Allah's Name while hunting, then you can eat (the game). And if you hunt something with your trained hound, and have mentioned Allah's Name on sending it for hunting then you can eat (the game). But if you hunt
something with your untrained hound and you were able to slaughter it before its death, you can eat of it."
Narrated Adi bin Hatim
I asked the Prophet, "I send off (for a game) my trained hunting dogs; (what is your verdict concerning the game they hunt?" He said, "If you send off your trained hunting dogs and mention the Name of Allah, then, if they catch some game, eat (thereof). And if
you hit the game with a mi'rad (a hunting tool) and it wounds it, you can eat (it)."

jazakum Allah khairan for this Todd, I recently asked a scholar on behalf of a new Muslimah living in the US. The conclusion is that meat can not be consumed, for the animals are killed by electricution, chicken or turkey can be eaten, but u say bismellah Allah u Akbar first, if u can not have access to halal store, a jewish butcher can be sought. They kill like us, but again u say bismellah Allah u Akbar and of course fish is permissible

In Trinidad Iguana has become a delicasy. It is comparable and sometimes better than Curry Duck which was my favourite. Now Curried Iguana is my favourite, but now that I have come to practise my deen I am questioning all that I eat and by Allah if it is proven to be Haraam, I will surely give it up.

They aren't very "pretty" to eat but they sure do taste good ! But it's got to be Curried!
The Iguanas we have in Trinidad looks like the one in the Second row in the green grass on the page above.
It's a herbivore and lives on trees. They are very fast and can run on two back legs. They can even swim under water. But they can't stay in water for long but use it as a retreat when in danger.

With all due respect I think we must look further into this matter of halal meat. I heard a fiqh lesson on this and the part we must look further at is this:<b> if a person is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits, thy lord is oft forgiving, most merciful.</b>
I have tried to find this matter on my own to provide the daleel to all of us, but alas I can not find it. I will go from memory and in sha Allah I will ask our Imam about this to provide the daleel.
The above in bold was taught to us in this way. The necessity must be of dire consequenses such as near death and there is nothing else to eat. The person may partake of this meat only enough to keep oneself alive, not to fill your stomach so in sha Allah you may be able to continue on your jounery to get to a place you can get halal food.
I think we should be careful about the food we choose to eat as the stomach is one of the inroads to the heart, and will testify for us on the Day of Judgement.
