Can Muslims Eat.... - Peace in Ireland - 08-24-2004

Are muslims supposed to eat (or allowed to eat) things that aren't hallal, but aren't inherintly non-hallal? For example: Fluff. Can you eat it? Swedish Fish? Tang? Count Chocula?

Hi again Peace in Ireland,

I personally prefer to give a greeting to the one I address, a very nice both Muslim and non-Muslim custom. Why dont you try it too!

First a question to you: CAN you eat, since I assume you dont use the phrase halal, fluff - I am not sure what you mean by it but according to the explaination my dictionary I took for granted NO ONE can it it? Have your tried?

The rest of your meny I need more explanation to know what it is - since you seem to know what swedish fish is, what is it and what E-numbers is added to it?

You tell me and I tell you if I will join you for dinner!

Regards Maryam

here is the Quranic law

He has only forbidden you what dies of itself, and blood, and flesh of swine, and that over which any other (name) than (that of) Allah has been invoked; but whoever is driven to necessity, not desiring, nor exceeding the limit, no sin shall be upon him; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

Fluff is a delicious treat made of sugar, egg whites, and sticky stuff.

So as long as the food didn't die before someone slaughtered it, it isn't a pig, or isn't blood, you can eat it? I think I understand. So something like, say, Coke would be ok because it contains neither of those, even though it didn't exist in Mohammed's time.

Hello peace in Ireland,

Goodness if we were only allowed to eat what was around during the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) time, then it'd just be dates, camel meat and sheep milk [Image: tongue.gif].

There is nothing to say that new foods are not permissible, as long as the ingredients themselves are halal then yes, Muslims can eat it.

There is actually a little bit more to it than that. There is only certain animal flesh that is allowed eg. not carnivorous animals, horses also I believe may not be permissible to eat, no predatory birds and of course no pigs. The animal must be killed the halal way (I can give specifics if you wish). Alcohol and other intoxicants are also not permitted.

I hope I have made it a little clearer.

Assalamualaykum...

Haram list:

1) Pigs and it's childrens and so on...

2) animal to hunt with fangs, claws etc (carnivorous animals)

3) unslaughtered animals (except fishes and sea foods)

4) everything that can make you lost concious/ drunk/ lost sanity (wine, beer, drugs, ectasy...etc)

5) died before slaughtered (germs and bacterias can easily affect this)

6) dirty things (if you watch fear factor u'll know what i meant ... roaches, maggots...etc)

please add up this list, i don't think this is all...

Muslimah,

Coke refers to Coca-Cola, a carbonated soft-drink. The "sticky stuff" in Fluff remains a mystery to mankind as of this day. I have my suspicions that it is extra-terrestrial cytoplasm...... though we'll never know for sure.

Thank u peace for explaining coke to me, of course I am aware of it, I was just confused as u were asking about it, of course we can drink coke, seven up and all the rest. Alhamdulelha I think my brothers and sisters covered the subject for u.
