Reasons for wearing the hijab

lol some of them are so hillerious ( you sisters can add your own too if you like)

1. Because the Qur'an and Sunnah states so. Allah ordered us to wear the hijab and cover up to protect ourselves so we get the proper respect we deserve and not be treated like we are a piece of meat.

2. You can dye your hair any colour you want and no one can say anything at all, because its all hidden, you can have blue hair, or purple, or bright red, or neon pink or green, long or permed or short, or rainbow colors with sparkles and glitter, jewellery in your ears, and all over.... 3. Children think you are a ninja, and you can say you are 'niqabi ninja' They will think of you as this heroine and will admire you.

4. People think it is your costume. Or at least some will think of it as a costume you are wearing for your party, or work, or that you were forced to wear it. LOL and you have to explain to them no it is your CHOICE to wear it though in the Qur'an it says it will Protect you.

5. People think you might be bald, but then you have to tell them no, I have hair...no I don't have cancer. You can show to the little kids, see I have hair....

6. You get a lot of respect in the hijab from all your brothers and sisters and other people, than you did before your hijabi days

7. You can wear whatever you like under the abayah, light and cool dresses are good.

8. Despite that this world has hot weather, HELL IS HOTTER, so you rather suffer a bit on this world than the Hereafter.

9. Have you noticed that some people that are really maybe ignorant about Islam and women and Muslims that they speak extra loudly and clearly to you wherever you go. "Wwwoould yooooou llike ttthat in beeeeeels/noooottes or ch change ma 'am?" "I speak english clearly, change please."

10. No bad hair days to worry about!.

11. People know that you're a Muslim. You can distinguish yourself in this society.

12. Your hair isn't exposed all kinds of crappy pollution and UV rays.

13. Your hijabs smell nice cause they start smelling like your shampoo.

14. Only the people you want to see your awrah, will see it...not every wierdo walking on the street.

15. your skin is protected under the niqab

16. No bugs in your hair (no having to worry about catching nits from other people!)

17. you won't age prematuredly, since you don't wear makeup

18. you won't have to waste time in the morning deciding on the perfect outfit in the morning, if you wear jilbab.

19. because you know your beautiful and you can keep all that beauty to yourself.

20. No one dares to mess with a hijabi sis while taking a walk. [Image: biggrin.gif]

22. you will feel a closeness to every muhajabah you see on the road and to every muslim you ever encounter

23. The inner feeling of peace you get when you wear it

24. little girls or little boys look up to you, and want to be like you.

25. When guys see you, they respect you, they cross the street so they dont pass by you and offend you.

26. They see muslims as trustworthy people and give you discounts at stores, and restaurants, and esp if you are in hijab they give you like 5 or 10 dollars/pounds off what you buy.

27. because most pious brothers WON'T EVEN CONSIDER marriage with a non-hijabi (caution: your intention for wearing hijab should still be to observe the command of Allah)

28. If you ever get in trouble.. you can pretend like you dont know any English and either flip out on them in Arabic/Urdu/any other language or run away crying as if they offended you.

29. Because theres more freedom in deciding who gets to see you rather than having anyone look at you and your beauty.

30. People treat you for your mind not your body. In the sense that you succeed in things (ie. job because of your performance and intelligence and not because how short your mini skirt is.

31. Because Muslims are required to practice Islam in every aspect of ur life including everyone, not just nuns like in Christainity or only on saturday. for Jews, or only Sunday for Catholics all of whom cover on those days, I am told as a respect to God. Muslimahs should respect God at all times.

32. Beauty fades eventually, and with hijab people learn to love your inner beauty without the hindereness of your outer beauty.

33. Your husband and loved ones learn to appreciate your beauty both outside and in more, and these tend to be the most important people in your life of which you grace those special people with your gifts from Allah.

34. You are a shining example how women in Islam are sooooo highly respected and valued and powerful in islam. For example you are no mans torphy to adorn his hand, you are a companion, mother and friend of the insha'Allah religous brother who appreciates you and your beauty. There are other things where this applies as well.

35. Thourghout history those that where scandalessly dressed and showing off there beauty, etc. tended to be the whores and prostitutes of the street, dancing girls etc., and those that were coverd tended to be the pious, respected women of history and many times they were the more powerfull then the other. (Sorry if I offeneded anyone with this one just a thought that has been in my head. I am not saying that these days that the people that don't dress correctly do things that I mentioned, I am just saying in history in the past this tened to be the case).

36. Hijab is a source of confidence. Non-Muslims easily recognize you to be different and do not stare when you stand up for you Islamic rights and beliefs which are often considered strange in the western society.

37. It keeps you warm in the winter. You dont have to worry about trying to keep a hat on to stop your ears from freezing up! Plus the head is medically known for the place where a HIGH level of heat is released from the body!

38. Long Lasting. Hijab protects your hair for longer and keeps it shiny, healthy and in good condition.

It clearly marks where the muslims are gathering in a crowd.

I was looking for the my Muslim Student Organization table today when all of the clubs and groups get together on campus to introduce themselves to the student body, especially new comers. I walked around the area twice and still could not find it. I called the president, no not Bush, and asked him where the table was. I still could not find it but the directions made me look in the right direction. I saw a brown hijab and knew where I had to go.

ps I would not marry a woman without a hijab either.

I can add what I was telling my brother yesterday.

Observing the Islamic female dress code makes one feels so precious. Did u ever see a Jewlery shop displaying a 10 carat white blue flawless diamond in the window. Never of course, it is kept well protected.

It makes me feel special to Allah.

Assalmu aleikum all,

Intuition a long and beautiful list of reasons. I agree to them all. I would like to add to it, that if I would be FORCED for some reason to leave my house without it, it would be like going out naked. What a horrible thought. That thought comes to my mind sometimes to have my clothes and hijab beside my bed, so in case of an emergency, I dont have to rush out of the house without anything that includes my islamic hijab dressing.

But I would also like to add that the surroundings always are not so welcoming, in a Muslim country nor in a non-Muslim country, it is a test of Allah, SWT, to be steadfast. But that inspires me to wear it even more, mashaAllah. But the positive reactions are also to be found. When I started to wear it, some sisters that I had no idea they practised Islam, came up to me and greeted me and told me that they thought it was great that I had it on me and said, mashaAllah 'you that are not a born Muslim wear it and we that are born Muslims do not'. MashaAllah. And going to the pharmacy and being greeted and complimented by a Muslim brother, and as you wrote Intuition going to buy some clothes, and being greeted and complimented and given a discount 'only beacause you have embraced Islam and wear the hijab', mashaAllah. This raise so many memories, it is good to write about. It was 7 years ago.

Brother Anyabwile, welcome to the Muslim Ummah I have read about your journey here and I am so happy for you. InshaAllah your wife to be will soon follow, if she needs help I am positive we will be here for her too. I wish you the best of luck on the path that Allah, SWT, has guided you to.

Subhanallah, there are many great reasons in this list but this one stands out for me. As a Muslimah living in a smaller city with smaller Muslim population, I think hijab is great for increseing our exposure, and can be so beneficial for dawah. Maybe this was mentioned in the list, but as we are easy recognizable as Muslims for our dress, any person wishing to ask a question can identify easily this is a Muslim, and I can ask to her.

Something I think is so wonderful living here is that when I go out in niqab, I see the glances of small children at my kids school or in public, and they are so quick to inquire about why I am dressed in this way. The most amazing and special thing that happened only rescently while waiting in line at the post office, I noticed a small boy maybe two or three years old waiting with his mother some way ahead of me. He was singing a little song to himself and dancing around a bit, and as he spun his little eyes caught a glimpse of me standing there. He stopped his singing as his eyes became very wide and surprised, and he said to his mother, "OH LOOK! There is an angel in here!" Alhumdulilah, these small kids have more and more exposure to Islam, and who knows what they might become in the future??? May Allah guide them and help us all be always be strong and sincere Muslims. And May He bless us all and help us to do our best with our children, they are after all, our future. [Image: smile.gif]

aww! Children are so pure and so clean-hearted, sometimes it takes only a child to really see somethings true colors. Where you wearing a white Niqab dear Sister? [Image: biggrin.gif]

I have my utmost respect for Sisters who wear the Niqab, You must have lots of Imaan and courage to wear it Sister Jennifer. I am hoping one day to reach to the stage of the ladder that you are at now.

My Best friend is a Niqabi, when I walk with her in town sometimes, and children all look our way, and she gives them a wave and their eyes are wide open [Image: ohmy.gif]

, It's always a pleasure to be in her company MashaAllah. Oh and not to mention how people make way for covered women. Just yesterday in school, I was 12/13 steps away from this man who was walking ahead of me and he was entering the same door that I would need to go through, when he got to the door he opened the door and looked back and saw me walking, and he waited for me, he was standing there and holding the door open for me to pass through, and let me also add that this man was a non-muslim, I get a lot of door opening for me, but this one was really exceptional. Oh sis that feeling is so mutual, subhanaAllah. I have thought of that myself quite a few times, what if there is a fire in house like at night, and you can't get to your other half, your hijab? May Allah protect us from such dangerous events, just thinking about it gives me the chills walahee.

I have one Hijab experience in High school that really facinates me to this day, I'll share that one with you when I am less tired. [Image: wink.gif]

Sobhan Allah, Umm Zacharia such experiences are really inspiring. I had some myself. and O u r a revert too, Sobhan Allah, I have a point about this, we are all born Muslims.

On a visit to the US (1991), I was flying back home from NY where a close relative was supposed to pick me at the train station to take me to airport.

I stepped off train carrying my huge suitcase, not to mention, I was visiting an Egyptina friend who told me no one would help me with it and may Allah help me, she is not adhereing to the dress code. Any way, before I stepped off, an American man who stood there, just picked it up without any hesitation till I was fine on the platform greeted me (not salam but buy) and left. Getting into the waiting area, a black man came hurrying towards me, greeted me with Salam, picked up the case asked me where I was going, I said waiting for a relative, he said I will wait with u till he comes lest he is late I will take u to the airport. He waited there just standing not even looking at me, till me relative arrived. He greeted both of us and left Mash a Allah. I told this to my friend she said why this always happens to u and not me, I said I have my ID on [Image: smile.gif]

I have a lot funny/strange experiences with my hijab the most amazing experience happened 3 years ago just when I began wearing my hijab. It was the beginning of a new year and many primary-students start high school, anyway it was summer and really nice, I had plans to meet up with a Sister somewhere so that we could spend our lunch break together, and on my way this boy called Benyamin came from behind me and sprinkled the whole water he was drinking out of a full bottle on me and also said to me “ you must need some cooling wearing that on your head, the water did not only wet me but I was wearing a white hijab and my hair could almost be seen, and my white school-uniform-shirt became all wet too, not knowing what was going on and being astonished of the treatment I received from this boy, I saw a young boy who looked like as though he was 13, coming from one corner, he walked towards me and took a juice bottle I had with me out of my hands, he opened up the bottle and throwed it in the face of Benyamin. Benyamin was standing there his white shirt turned all orange and his face was covered all with the orange.

I was just speechless, wondering who this little boy who was, who was 3 years younger then me, and why he did that. The boy will later introduce himself to me, I was 16 he was 13. He told me that his name was Suleyman, and that he is a Muslim, then I said to him, why did you do that Suleyman? (I was afraid that he would get hurt) Then he said, "why else Sister, I saw a Muslim Sister being humiliated should I just sit back and watch the whole thing? I showed him the same courtesy he showed you Sister". I smiled and I said MashAllah. Suleyman later became a good friend of my younger brother Mohamed. There is hope for this Ummah if we have the likes of Suleyman. [Image: smile.gif]

If I would not have been wearing my hijab that day, Suleymon would not have noticed me, and had the urge to defend me so quicly. May Allah reward him for his courage, ameen.

Thats the first day in my life when I started loving someone for Allahs sake.
