Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi (1909-79) founded Pakistan’s Islamist party
‘Jama’at-I-Islami’ in 1941. He led this organization from it inception in British India to Pakistan till 1972, when he passed on the mantle of ‘Amir’ to others. During this period, he was constantly persecuted, jailed and finally sentenced to death by the military rule of General Ayub Khan for authoring a pamphlet proving Qadianis as non-Muslims. The sentence was changed to life-imprisonment on public furry.
Sayyid Maududi is authored over 100 books on several aspects of Islam, including Qur’anic Tafseer, Prophet’s (pbuh) Seerah, and political theory of Islam. Here is link to one of his paper.
