What Is Faith - nawaz - 12-10-2004 As every Muslim knows or should know, Iman is the foremost and essential requirement of Islam. Without proper Iman, one cannot become a Muslim even if one is born in a Muslim family. In fact, Iman is something which has to be (self) consciously acquired in order to become a Muslim, constantly maintained in order to remain a Muslim, and continually reinforced and fortified in order to begin the next life as a Muslim. Therefore, Iman is something which cannot (and should not) be taken for granted. (Unfortunately, many of us take it for granted.) If Iman is so important that it is the gist of life here and a savior in the hereafter, then it becomes necessary for each of us to find out what Iman really is. It is not right to say that I am a Muslim (and therefore I have Iman) because I was born in a Muslim family. As we will see shortly, the Quran (and that means Allah Almighty) does not accept this as a valid argument. What is Iman and what is its definition in the context of Islam? This is a fundamental question concerning Muslims and Islam. But one thing is quite clear:A definition of Iman which contradicts any Quranic principle cannot be accepted as Iman in Islam,no matter where and whomsoever it may have come from. After this preamble, let us explore first of all the meaning of the Arabic word Iman and its definition given in the Quran by Allah Almighty. The root of the word Iman in arabic is a-m-n which means: to be calm and quiet (in one’s heart); to be protected from fear; trustworthiness and truthfulness (Taj al-Urus). Iman means to accept truthfully, to be convinced, to verify something, to rely upon or have confidence in something. Iman is usually translated in English as faith or belief, and faith in turn signifies acceptance without proof or argument, without reference to reason or thought, knowledge or insight. According to the Quran, Iman is conviction which is based upon reason and knowledge; a conviction that results from full mental acceptance and intellectual satisfaction; the kind of conviction that gives one a feeling of inner contentment and peace. And a Mumin is one who accepts truth in such a way that it ensures his own peace and helps him to safeguard the peace and security of the rest of mankind. In fact, Al-Mumin is one of the attributes of God Himself Quran chapter 59 verse 23. Regards Nawaz What Is Faith - Deen - 12-14-2004 If Iman is as you said "Iman means to accept truthfully, to be convinced, to verify something, to rely upon or have confidence in something", then by this can non-muslims have Iman? Because a christian and a jew can say they have all the above too. Also, you said that "According to the Quran, Iman is conviction which is based upon reason and knowledge..." but above you say to rely or have confidence which is not the same as conviction. One cannot rely upon information given from his/her parents to believe in Allah, nor to say I have confidence that Allah is Al-Khaliq etc would be incorrect. What Is Faith - Muslimah - 12-15-2004 Quote: Bismillah as salam alykom I wonder brother and I hope u reply, is the quoted word a referrence? pls clarify. Now saying that eman involves something u know and convition actually contradicts the definition given by the Messenger salla Allah a`layhee wa sallam. For Eman consists of 76 parts as u know the first of them is to belive in Allah Who Is Unseen. Also to believe in the unknown like the angles, Jannah and Juhanamum. What Is Faith - radiyah - 12-15-2004 Bismillah Quote:(Taj al-Urus). I think that this is a book called . تاج العروس للإمام الزبيدي So I guess it s ok . Wasalam 'alaykom wa rahamt Allah What Is Faith - Muslimah - 12-16-2004 Jazaki Allah khairan Radiyah for clarifying I am talking also about his web site he keeps posting its link and it needs much revision. What Is Faith - radiyah - 12-16-2004 Bismillah Alsalam 'alaykom yes I noticed sister, u r having a hard time in doing that, I have gone through his site also, but I find that the Quran translation is not that good, I wonder where he brought this translation ? . And y is he insisting on putting his web, can't u explain brother Nawaz. ? Wasalam 'alaykom wa Rahmat Allah What Is Faith - nawaz - 12-17-2004 Dear All Yes i can understand your crusioty to know about the refrence of all those Quranic words or definitions , so my dear all , one is Taj ul Uroos, the second is lissan Arab the third is Muheet the fourth is a classic arabic to english lexicon by the name lane lexicon. If you guys try to reach the niche meaning of all those words which are in Quran then you must consult these lexicons along with many others. But the basic element is to understand Quran with its root meaning. Otherwise we all will be wandering. Refreing to your second part of curiousity that a website is posting a link in order get itself promote so guys if you got a chance to explore things then why to curse , we all come here for discussion not for arguments if you do not like any thing then i am not forcing you to believe in that , same goes for me. I hope that my point of view has been clear to you. Regards Nawaz What Is Faith - Muslimah - 12-18-2004 Bismillah as salam alykom brother at least u replied this time, jazakum Allah khairan: 1. We are not curious about anyting since the Messenger Salla Allah a`alyhee wa sallam warned us against curiosity. We must be only busy with what concerns us. 2. We sure understand why u r posting a link of course, u r allowed to promote your site, we do promote Islamic sites. If u noticed we have a link room. But the question is, why r u posting the link? Is it only to gain more traffic, get more hits, or spread useful correct knowledge and thus gain Allah's reward? I presume u being a Muslim like us brother u go for the second option. For the second option, for us being in charge of the site, we need to ensure posting links that probagate correct info. 3. Being native Arabic speaker Alhamdulelah allows me to understand the words without a much need for a lexicon. I did observe that for Allah's Names u consulted the lexicon. But brother, we have no interest to tell u that the explanation contained is not correct except our, your and the visitors interest. Why would we not want u to promote your site if we have an only links room. We are not competing here brother but rather cooperating to attain Allah's satisfaction. 4. I fully understand the effort u need to put in order to develop a site, but one continues learning till death comes. Most welcome to our board brother, but pls stop posting the link till u fully revise your site. The link room is made for this. It makes it easier for us to revise and see how the site is. Jazakum Allah khairan What Is Faith - nawaz - 12-18-2004 Dear All I could'nt understand the bone of contention between us either the link which i used as my signature at the end of every post or wether it is the content of topics which you consider not upto the right standerds of many islamic scholars. As i said earlier that i dont wanna emit my energies by engaing in arguments , yes discussions are more welcome then any thing. Otherwise whosever is an administrator of this site shall cancle my membership, but my postings will be inshAllah according to what i have learned and explored. And to your this reply that being a native of arab land you have more understanding with arabic then non arab ( inorder to understand Quranic words), well lady for your kind information if this would have been a case then at the time of revelation of Holy Quran all those arab pagans would embrass Islam on the account of this arab native basis, but as we all know that many of them remained unmoved by Quranic Ideology. The gist of my entire conservation is that plz ponder in Quran instead of following conventional , ancestral way of abiding so called Religious parameters. Thanks Regards Nawaz What Is Faith - Muslimah - 12-18-2004 Bismillah as salam alykom brother At least u may pls stop posting the link to every post, u r not manking it easy for us people here. We can always look at posts to ensure their compatability, but we can not continue going after each post and delet the link. Also I will move all of your posts one by one to section Islam So pls post there, they fit there. I think u needed to read the instructions on each room before posting. Brother there is nothing wrong with respecting others. Neither we have time or effort for arguments. |
