The “ahle-kitaab” – People Of Book - Rehmat - 01-20-2005 The “Ahle-Kitaab” – People of Book It’s amazing how some Muslims and the non-Muslims pin-down the Qur’anic definition of “Ahle-Kitaab” on the “Yahuud and Nasarah (Jews and Christians)” by taking the following Holy Qur’an Verse 3:110 (Aal-I-Imraan): Ye are the best of people Evolved for mankind, Enjoying what is right, and prohibiting what is wrong, And forbidding what is wrong, And believing ALLAH. If only the people of the book had faith, It were best for them; Among them are some, who have faith, But most of them are, Perverted transgressors. These people are in the habit of reciting the first half of the Verse, stopping at the word ALLAH, followed by different desertions. The first half of the Verse could be applied to many Faiths, especially to the so-called Monotheist faiths - Judaism and Christianity. However, it is second part of the above Verse, which pin-down the true meaning of “The People of Book”, by Holy Qur’an. “But if only the People of the Book” – meaning the Yahuud and Nasarah. “If they hearkened unto this message” – meaning the message of Holy Qur’an. “It will be better for them” – meaning it will also be better for you, O’ Muslims. “Among them” – meaning Yahuud and Nasarah. “Are some who are a goodly people (followers of the Laws of Musa and the followers of Isa.” Both the Jews and Christians boast the receiver of the early revelations – Tauraat (Torah), Zaboor (Zabur), and Injel (Bible), by their respective prophets – Yet they were (and still are) the first to reject the Final Revelation of the same God. The “ahle-kitaab” – People Of Book - honeycomb - 01-21-2005 assalamua'alaikum rehmat ![]() maybe surah 98: Al-Bayyinah can help clear it. for me, I used to read/hear people talk about Ahli Kitab & it just confuses me. but amazingly the Quran makes is so simple. i believe the true believers of Psalms, Injeel, Torah, Quran (who practices the true tachings & are not polytheists), are true muslims. as in the Quran said -- the religion is one. i'm certain people of the scriptures who holds to their true faith, will recognise Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) & will believe in him. as Abdullah bin Salam (Jewish muslim) in the lifetime of the Prophet. they can seek the story of Abraham & know. for others who still disbelieve, maybe it's best to let God Judge them. this Eid Khutbah, the cleric said muslims musn't feel secure from Hell-fire, as that's not the way to be. just claiming to believe but not practising is just hypocricy, right? Yes this Surah deals with several historical facts. For example, 1) the sending of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was ESSENTIAL to the transformation of those of the people of earlier revelations and the polytheists who had ended up in disbelief. They could not have departed from their erring ways without the help of this final prophetic mission; 2) the religious discord and conflict among the people of the earlier revelations did not arise out of their ignorance of, or from any obscurity or ambiguity in their religion. On the contrary they ran into discord after they had received true knowledge and the clear proof, and 3) in regard to its origin, “the religion is one”. Its fundamentals are simple and clear and do not, by themselves and by their plain and easy nature, make for divisions or conflicts. Quote:i'm certain people of the scriptures who holds to their true faith, will recognise Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) & will believe in him. as Abdullah bin Salam (Jewish muslim) in the lifetime of the Prophet…. Yes there tens of thousands of Jews and Christians, even today, who have recognized the Prophet (pbuh) and found peace in Islam – From Bishops to Rabbis.
